$169,240 Federal Grant to Build ‘Educational Pipeline’ for LGBT Population Researchers

What? Are You kidding me? No. This is for real.  According to CNS News, here’s one way American’s hard earned tax dollars will be spent.

The National Institutes of Health through its Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development has awarded $169,240 in taxpayer funds to the Fenway Community Health Center to develop a new generation of scientists devoted to studying the LGBT population.

The grant titled, “Educational Program for Population Research in LGBT Health,” was awarded on June 1, 2014, although the project itself began on July 1, 2010 and is scheduled to run through May 31, 2015, also the budget end date.

“Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people experience systemic health disparities. A remaining obstacle to growth of our understanding of LGBT health and ability to take steps to address LGBT health disparities is the lack of training resources to support and encourage the development of the next generation of interdisciplinary LGBT population scientists,” the grant said.

LGBT population health “has emerged as a growing interdisciplinary science,” it stated.

The grant recipient plans to build “an educational pipeline program to channel aspiring research scholars into this field.” Continue reading
