UPDATE:  In April, one month before the conference, it was reported that Jeremiah was no longer going to be speaking due to “scheduling conflicts”:

Screen Shot 2016-07-28 at 12.28.03 PM

As for even considering speaking at the Jump Start conference in Chicago this past May, why anyone would want to hitch his pony to the heretic express?

If appearing at a conference with known and exposed heretics was the only concern, this probably wouldn’t garner much more than a raised eyebrow at Jeremiah’s incredible lack of discernment.

BUT,

  • Jeremiah regularly appears on Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), and was often alongside Word of Faith/prosperity teacher Paul Crouch (when he was alive).
  • Last year, Jeremiah joined with Word of Faith heretics Kenneth Copeland, Paula White, and Jan Crouch in laying hands on, and praying for, Donald Trump.
  • Jeremiah hosted Catholic New Ager Roma Downey and Mark Burnett at his church to discuss and promote the new TV show A.D. and Jeremiah’s new companion book based on the biblical book of Acts.
  • Lighthouse Trails issued a report about David Jeremiah’s promotion of contemplative and New Age authors through his book, Life Wide Open, in which he favorably quoted New Agers, Buddhist sympathizers, mystics and contemplatives. The report also showed Jeremiah’s affiliation with New Age sympathizer Ken Blanchard and Lead Like Jesus.
  • His book, Captured by Grace, Jeremiah favorably points to mystical contemplative Catholic author, the late Henri Nouwen, (who said he was uncomfortable with those who say that Jesus is the only way of salvation and that he felt it was his calling to help people find their own path).   In addition, inside the front of the book sits the name and endorsement of Ken Blanchard.

It’s a serious pattern of confusing the sheep.

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,

“I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
17 Therefore go out from their midst,
and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch no unclean thing;
    then I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you,
and you shall be sons and daughters to me,
says the Lord Almighty.”
2 Corinthians 6:14-18

Additionally, it is dangerous to fellowship with false teachers because they can corrupt even sound theology.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
1 Corinthians 15:33

I find this so puzzling and sad. And yet Brannon Howse has spoken to Jeremiah about basically getting into the wrong crowd. Obvious he has not taken heed.

    • Bart November 1, 2015 at 4:38 pm #

In the name of “truth” you guys are nothing more than the “gotcha club” who are obviously the only wise, discerning and perfect people. Amy your vitriol on air and the subsequent untruths about your departure from Q90 FM was disgusting.

Yes, Jeremiah has problems (Roma Downey, etc). But in no defense of him, if Brannon approached me in his usual condescending tone I wouldn’t listen either. Has anybody ever heard that it’s not what you say but how you say it that often determines whether anyone listens or not?

Honestly, what you are doing isn’t really about truth is it Amy? It’s about scooping a story and subtly declaring how discerning you are compared to everyone else. Amy, Brannon and some of you guys commenting below seem only interested in bringing others down. Ever heard of bringing the truth in love? Try it sometime of do you understand what that actually means?

You asked “Birds of a feather?” I’m not sure which camp I’d rather avoid more but its probably yours. At least I could dialog with the heretics.

This is sad, but not surprising. Dr. Jeremiah has been approached several times, especially after he invited known mystic Roma Downey to speak at his church. He has also been promoting TBN, and reading from The Message during his sermons. I was so disgusted when I saw him praying for and blessing Donald Trump along with many TBN false teachers.

I believe The Lord is separating the sheep from the goats. We can no longer just follow our favorite teachers without constant wisdom and discernment.

Sorry you don’t like President Trump…is it because he is not “holier then thou”?
His past may not be “lily white” but then Jesus forgives sinners. I didn’t vote for him because he was perfect , I vote for him because he knows how to run a business , not pick my packet!

SO sad………..A once admired teacher, unable to discern. Prayers for David Jeremiah and other admired leaders who may be swayed by “another Gospel”. Prayers for the LORD to open their eyes and/or to open the eyes of those who have looked to them for Godly counsel.

    • Clayton October 6, 2015 at 7:23 pm #

This is just so sad…People whom you thought were on the right track now turning away to follow the heresies of demon doctrine…I enjoy watching David Jeremiah’s program on Sunday mornings…But I will not be a viewer any longer… There is Bishop T>D> Jakes whom I dearly loves to listen to and watch…When the pope was here what did I see but a photo of him, dressed as a catholic priest standing out in front of the crowd…The bible says something about a great falling away before the man of sin is revealed…My word, I have never seen such a turning from the truth of God’s word…

TD is a false teacher. Please people do your research. Most teachers on TV today are just money preachers. They have fallen into what I call the money and fame trap. It will turn a great preacher into a sinful man. All I ask is do your research. After all God commands us to do as much.

The scripture is filled with admonitions to ‘try the spirits’ and what we are seeing is the wheat being separated from the tares. For satan to be successful, he must duplicate the truth and sadly, the gullible will swallow it lock, stock and barrel. So sad….

  5. Daniel October 8, 2015 at 2:12 pm #

Like others have posted; this is so sad. Let us pray for David and others who have taken this path. This is a reminder to all of us to stay grounded in Gods Word, Pray, fix our eyes upon Jesus Christ seeking the Holy Spirit (our true spiritual teacher/comforter) which has been sent to guide and comfort us while upon the earth, until His return.

A lot of people are talking about the TBNization of the Southern Baptist Convention. Obviously, the SBC and TBN have official business agreements which allows TBN to air the sermons of SBC preachers like Charles Stanley, Jack Graham, David Jeremiah, and the late Adrian Rogers and Billy Graham. David Jeremiah goes beyond the others in having appeared on TBN’s praise-a-thon and telling Paul Crouch that God gave Crouch a vision to start TBN. Steven Furtick, whose church is SBC-affiliated, appears on TBN regularly and is friends with TD Jakes and Joel Osteen. Jack Graham (a former president of the SBC) was a part of Elephant Room 2 which attempted to mainstream TD Jakes. James MacDonald, who led ER2, is being received into the SBC. He is a friend of TD Jakes and has said that it is absurd not to consider Jakes a fellow Christian. Then there is Rick Warren and Ed Young Jr., SBC preachers who have endorsed and shared a platform with almost every Word-Faith and Prosperity heretic out there.

The SBC refuses to exercise church discipline against megachurches like those pastored by Jeremiah, Graham, Warren, Furtick, Noble, Young, et al because they bring money into the Convention. That is also why MacDonald’s Harvest Bible Chapel has been absorbed into the SBC now. Many faithful small churches are leaving because of these things. This goes to the highest levels of SBC leadership, including former presidents (Jack Graham). Also one can look at the sermons on money and tithing from the current SBC president, Ronnie Floyd, to see that prosperity teaching has had a deadly influence on the SBC.

Many people assume the SBC is safe because of its “evangelical” status, the conservative resurgence, and that still disfellowships churches that go liberal and ordain women or sanction homosexuality. But theological liberalism is not the only heresy and false teaching out there. There are many false gospels which can supplant the true Gospel and cut entire churches and denominations off from the Body of Christ. And it doesn’t seem like any positive reform of the SBC is ever going to happen, given that Paige Patterson has allowed Rick Warren to be honored with a stained glass window at SWBTS. Patterson is one of the major players in the modern SBC, as well as in the conservative resurgence.

Also, it seems that the subject of Billy Graham’s flaws is taboo in the SBC. He pretty much regarded with a saintly status, and no one talks about his errors in working with false Christians (liberal mainliners and Rome) and in believing in the possibility of salvation apart from conscious faith in Christ. This view of Billy Graham as infallible, shared by most in the SBC, is dangerous, allows for no discussion of his errors, and leaves the denomination defenseless against those very same errors. There is a big statue of him outside of Lifeway’s headquarters in Nashville, TN.

    • Bill April 14, 2016 at 9:00 am #

The SBC is not a denomination, it is a group of churches that agree on specific doctrine. Therefore the SBC has absolutely no authority over any of these pastors, none. They are all accountable to God, and subject to the authority of their church elders, which in many SBC churches is the pastors or deacons. Jeremiah, and some of the others, have gotten so enamoured with themselves they think they are above and not subject to Scripture. Romans 8:5-8; 2Corinthians 6:14-18.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU PEOPLE ARE SO JUDGMENTAL AND CONDEMNING OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY GOD TO PREACH ABOUT THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED.
YOU ALL ARE BEHAVING LIKE A BUNCH OF MALICIOUS GOSSIPS.
    SHAME ON YOU!

    • Jan September 25, 2016 at 1:56 pm #

Good for you Pat I agree with you. God tell us not to attack HIS annointed. We are not the judge God is. God also says not to gossip.

      • ron February 18, 2017 at 11:21 am #

Paul was very stern about false doctrine coming into the church in Galatia. Wisen up or you too will be duped by false teachers.

      • Manny1962 February 18, 2017 at 11:41 am #

His anointed? Those that compromise against God’s word? Where’s the logic? People peddle the word if God for profit and self aggrandizement, the FACT that Jeremiah would attend Tbn hold hands with departed heretic Paul Crouch says a lot about the so called “anointed” one. Pat and Jan, you’ve missed the point, we are to judge those that call themselves teachers, to see if what they say/do jives with God’s word! We don’t judge those outside the church h, inside we judge and are admonished go by the apostle Paul. This “don’t judge” or “don’t touch God’s anointed” has been beaten to death and used by countless false teachers to keep the sheep from protesting and calling them out for what they’re doing! This is how they introduce more heresy into the body! Shame on those that know this and let the wolves get away with it! God is seperating, He is removing His bride from churchianity! And David Jeremiah either wrecked his faith, is being rebellious, and/or completely compromised, if that’s the case he’s part of Churchianity. To be marked as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  8. lyn October 11, 2015 at 11:38 am #

    Pat,

Let’s be clear, those ‘preachers’ mentioned in this article and in the comments are NOT called by God to preach. They are minions of Satan, using the disguise of preacher to fleece millions, to make merchandise, as the Apostle Peter warned in 2 Peter 2:3. We are called to judge rightly, which is what has taken place here.
You, on the other hand, have chosen to judge wrongly by accusing those who’ve exposed the errors as ‘gossips’. The egg is on your own face for upholding wolves and defending them.
I encourage you to do some research and investigate what the word of faith movement is, you will find it to be very unbiblical. The SBC is just another organized ‘religion’ that uses bits and pieces of truth to make merchandise. They do not practice church discipline, for if they did, Rick Warren would have been kicked out a long time ago. Even Al Mohler would be removed if they followed bibilcal guidelines, for he chooses one agenda, traditional marriage, and joins forces with other dead religions like Mormonism to push his agenda. Again, do the research for yourself like many already have. The Bible calls for Christ’s true sheep to come out from among them and be separate from them, not to join forces with them for any reason.
Billy Graham is another wolf in sheep’s clothing that claims you do not even have to hear of Jesus, yet you can be saved, and I quote, “Well, Christianity and being a true believer–you know, I think there’s the Body of Christ. This comes from all the Christian groups around the world, outside the Christian groups. I think everybody that loves Christ, or knows Christ, whether they’re conscious of it or not, they’re members of the Body of Christ. And I don’t think that we’re going to see a great sweeping revival, that will turn the whole world to Christ at any time. I think James answered that, the Apostle James in the first council in Jerusalem, when he said that God’s purpose for this age is to call out a people for His name. And that’s what God is doing today, He’s calling people out of the world for His name, whether they come from the Muslim world, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ because they’ve been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesus but they know in their hearts that they need something that they don’t have, and they turn to the only light that they have, and I think that they are saved, and that they’re going to be with us in heaven.” from Billy Graham – source –

Please educate yourself before you go pointing a finger at others with false accusations.

This quote from J.C. Ryle is very timely….

“Beware of supposing that a teacher of religion is to be trusted, because although he holds some unsound views, he yet ‘teaches a great deal of truth.’ Such a teacher is precisely the man to do you harm: poison is always most dangerous when it is given in small doses and mixed with wholesome food. Beware of being taken in by the apparent earnestness of many of the teachers and upholders of false doctrine. Remember that zeal and sincerity and fervor are no proof whatever that a man is working for Christ, and ought to believed. Peter no doubt was in earnest when he bade our Lord spare Himself, and not go to the cross; yet our Lord said to him, ‘Get thee behind Me, Satan.’ Saul no doubt was in earnest when he went to and fro persecuting Christians; yet he did it ignorantly, and his zeal was not according to knowledge. The founders of the Spanish Inquisition no doubt were in earnest, and in burning God’s saints alive thought they were doing God service; yet they were actually persecuting Christ’s members and walking in the steps of Cain. – It is an awful fact that, ‘Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.’ (2 Corinthians 11:14) Of all the delusions prevalent in these latter days, there is none greater than the common notion that ‘if a man is in earnest about his religion he must be a good man!’ Beware of being carried away by this delusion; beware of being led astray by ‘earnest minded men!’ Earnestness is in itself an excellent thing; but it must be earnestness in behalf of Christ and His whole truth, or else it is worth nothing at all.

Controversy in religion is a hateful thing. It is hard enough to fight the devil, the world and the flesh, without private differences in our own camp. But there is one thing which is even worse than controversy, and that is false doctrine tolerated, allowed, and permitted without protest or molestation. There are times when controversy is not only a duty but a benefit. Give me the mighty thunderstorm rather than the pestilential malaria. The one walks in darkness and poisons us in silence, and we are never safe. The other frightens and alarms for a little season. But it is soon over, and it clears the air. It is a plain Scriptural duty to ‘contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints.’ (Jude 3) I am satisfied that those who willfully put up with anything short of the whole truth, will find at last that their souls have received much damage. Three things there are which men never ought to trifle with, – a little poison, a little false doctrine, and a little sin.”

    J.C. Ryle

  10. Faith October 13, 2015 at 7:29 pm #

Sorry to burst your bubble, but he’s been on the heretical bandwagon for at least a decade! He has gone emergent, espouses rick warren, promotes the ‘barbarian way,’ and supports a host of new age teachers and mystics including the new age catholic Roma Downey of the apostate A.D. series. He has an eye of horus (an occult symbol) in his ‘shadow mountain’ ‘church,’ and the list goes on. For some reason discernment ministries seem to expose certain wolves, while another wolf pack goes entirely undetected! One sure way to spot a wolf track is to watch who they link elbows with. If it is a heretic, that makes them one now too. Yes, guilt by association in this case due to the bible verse of not being unequally yoked with unbelievers, have no fellowship with them, or heretics, etc. Do your homework!

  11. BERRY FARMER October 31, 2015 at 6:19 am #

We must read and believe 2 Timothy chapters 3 and 4. 2 Timothy 3:13 states ‘But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.’ We must understand that deception is not deception unless those teaching and those listening are believing it! Who deceives the world? Revelation 12:9 states So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Who takes the word from a person? Read Mark 4:14-19.

There is also another disturbing trend among most professing to be Christians. They are collecting teachers. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 state ‘For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.’ Who is are teacher. REad John 6:45, Matthew 23:10 and John 14:26.

  12. Ramsay December 6, 2015 at 6:13 am #

I used to listen to James McDonald until he went to some event honoring TD Jakes. That is an outright endorsement of Jakes. But does D Jeremiah speaking at a conference mean he endorses the other speakers?

I used to get RC sproul’s magazine and was shocked that he let a Seventh-day Adventist write an article. I immediately cancelled

    • Denise January 4, 2016 at 9:20 pm #

Ramsay, I believe it does. It’s pulpit fellowship. Even greeting a false teacher (let alone sharing the pulpit with one as if they’re unified on Truth), is wholly condemned by God:

2Jn 1:9 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting,
2Jn 1:11 for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

Plus,Jeremiah promotes these false teachers when he promotes himself at these meetings, too.

      • C.M.M. March 1, 2016 at 3:25 pm #

In the greek, 2 John 1:10, is not just “greeting” a false teacher, but rather telling them “God be with you” in their endeavors.

  13. Suzanne January 10, 2016 at 10:01 pm #

This is just so sad. I have listened to Dr. Jeremiahs teaching for years. I even have some stored on video for those who will come to my house after the Rapture. But if he has yoked himself to those who have proven themselves to be heretics and apostates how can I continue to listen to him or encourage others to do so?

    • Cheryl February 2, 2016 at 8:07 pm #

Suzanne, I feel the same way you do. Sadly, the answer to your question is, “You can not continue to listen to him or encourage others to do so.” And neither can I. Blessings to you, sister in Christ.

    • Cheryl February 2, 2016 at 8:51 pm #

Suzanne, I wanted to add that my concern is NOT that Dr. Jeremiah attended the meeting with Donald Trump at Trump Towers. Dr. Jeffress was there, too. Dr. Jeffress stated that he did not know who would be in attendance. Based on what else he has said about that day, it is clear that he didn’t care who else was in attendance. He was asked to pray for a man under the heavy burden of running for president – so he went and prayed. The fact that there ended up being flakes there (Copeland, et. al) made no difference to him. Perhaps Dr. Jeremiah felt the same way. The Lord will hear whose prayers He chooses to hear.

My growing sadness and doubt about Dr. Jeremiah is because of his involvement with the Jump Start Conference, his reading from the Message, and his promoting Roma Downey. But before I quit listening to him, I’ve decided to write to him and ask him to please, please reply to my concerns. I owe that to him, and to myself.

  15. C.M.M. March 1, 2016 at 3:23 pm #

I would be extremely cautious about claiming guilt by association in cases like this. Instead of assuming that a minister is in agreement doctrinally with another person simply because they are in the same place at the same time, why don’t people contact the ministers and ask them specifically if they believe this or that?

Jesus was condemned by the pharisees through “guilt by association” too, you know…

  16. jackie kay March 27, 2016 at 10:11 pm #

If you look at the Jump Street Conference schedule, David Jeremiah’s name is not on the agenda to appear or to speak – must be a photo shop gimmick!

  17. Gary Pruett March 29, 2016 at 10:40 pm #

Clearly, there will be a lot of people that think they are Christians that will not make it to Heaven, and this is according to Jesus! I’ve enjoyed many sermons by David Jeremiah and do believe he is a Christian. But God will be the judge of that! Olsteen certainly seems to be cut from a lot different cloth than Jeremiah. When the SBC voted over twenty years ago to decide whether they as a group still believed that the bible is the inspired word of God, that was a warning flag that the SBC was going down the wrong path.

  18. Raif April 11, 2016 at 7:59 am #

    Wow,
Reading all the posts here really causes one to wonder why the apostle Paul spent so much time in his epistles correcting errant “brothers” rather than just denouncing them as “heretics.” Just think how much clearer some of his epistles could have been if he had the “discernment” of all of you.
Actually, I would say Paul’s writing, under the inspiration of the Spirit, provides a much better example for dealing with error than what I see here.
(First paragraph written in satire, in case it’s not obvious. )

    • C.M.M July 26, 2016 at 2:11 pm #

Thank you, Raif. How true it is that these current generations of “Christian” are so incredibly eager to fight and cast people off as damned to hell, rather than taking a step back and consider them to simply be an errant brother who needs correction–in MEEKNESS–as Galatians 6:1 says. But….Jesus warned in a a parable about those servants who begin to beat the other servants…

  19. Gail McBride July 25, 2016 at 4:52 pm #

What I find very sad is Christians bashing other Christians, we will all have to face God someday. We are all the body of Christ and should not be fighting against each other. God bless David Jeremiah that he realizes what is important that Christians unite together, we are all serving the same God.

  20. Lynn C July 25, 2016 at 8:28 pm #

I don’t see that Dr Jeremiah spoke at this conference.

  21. Aaron Q July 27, 2016 at 12:44 pm #

False teacher? Just because he’s there? I’ve never heard Dr. Jeremiah teach anything false. So again I ask, false teacher? Just because he’s there?

16 There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,
19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. – Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV
