Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa Pastor, Brian Brodersen, Says Sometimes It’s OK to Attend a Homosexual Wedding

Same-sex marriage (Lighthouse Trails Research) On Friday, a long-time Lighthouse Trails reader contacted our office regarding the following situation. The person who called had attended Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa for several years but has not been attending for some time.

According to an article titled “Can I Attend My LGBT Friend’s Wedding?” written by Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa’s senior pastor Brian Brodersen, it is sometimes OK to attend a LTGB (Lesbian, Transgender, Gay, Bisexual) wedding. He says it’s not OK to attend the wedding if the two people getting “married” proclaim to be believers in Christ, but if they don’t claim to be believers then it may be OK. He says he bases his conclusions on 1 Corinthians 5:9-13, stating:

[If] the person is a rank-and-file unbeliever, perhaps a relative, an old friend, a work colleague, or whatever the case might be, and they invite you, this is where I would say pray about it and be open to the Lord having you there as part of the “bigger picture” work that He’s doing in the lives of those who presently are lost but could one day be found.

Brodersen believes that to truly show the love of Christ to a homosexual, it may be necessary to attend a same-sex wedding. However, one commenter on the blog where the article was posted disputed this view stating:

You probably wouldn’t attend any other sinful event that 2 or more of your unsaved friends were involved in, so how is this any different? A true friend would say, “Hey, I love ya bro, but I can’t be a part of this.” The first step to the slippery slope is compromise, cloaked in our emotions. Sometimes love must say no.

Brodersen defends his position by saying that Jesus ate with sinners.

Lighthouse Trails has witnessed the change in attitude toward homosexuality by those who are part of the emergent church movement for many years. This is another case in point. While we believe we are to show the love of Christ to all people, we also believe it is wrong to participate in or show acceptance of sinful activities. To compare sitting and having a meal with a lost person to participating in an event that promotes a sinful lifestyle is absurd; what’s more, it is unbiblical. While Jesus did eat with sinners, with the hope of having them repent from their evil deeds and turn to God, He told them to sin no more. He also fully supported the ministry and calling of John the Baptist, who called people to repent from their sins (in fact, that was the very reason John was beheaded). And the New Testament makes numerous references about having nothing to do with the works of darkness and wickedness. Yes, we are to love the sinner, but we are to hate the sin.

What Brian Brodersen has done here is taken a big step toward cultural “tolerance,” but this is not how we are described in the Bible, which states that, as Christians, we are to be a set apart people, a light on the hill, shining in the darkness. We are not to blend with or be absorbed into that darkness for that only dims the light. While it certainly is more politically correct to make the kind of statement Brodersen made, it does not set him apart as a “peculiar people.”

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

Something to consider, in this day and age when “same-sex marriage” is becoming a pivotal point for persecution and injustice against Bible-believing Christians, this is a slap in the face to those who have refused to participate in “gay marriages” (i.e., baking same-sex wedding cakes, doing the photography for same-sex weddings, etc). Brodersen has inadvertently sent out the message that these believers are wrong in their refusal to support homosexual weddings.

Attending a homosexual wedding will no sooner help a homosexual repent and turn to Christ than would driving the get away car for a bank robber help him repent and turn to Christ. It is tragic to see Christian leaders misrepresenting Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. Brian Brodersen has done a disservice to the body of Christ, and he has done no favor to those involved with homosexuality either.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.(1 John 2:16)

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.(Matthew 4:17)

“We are to love the sinner, but we are to hate the sin.” Who says? Where’s this in the Bible, the gospels or Paul? Totally unbiblical.

      Love your enemies. Matthew 5:44

Slander no one, but be peaceable and considerate and always be gentle toward everyone. For you were once foolish, disobedient , and deceived. Living in malice and envy, being hateful and hating one another. Titus 3:3

For the grace of God that brings salvation, teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live righteously, sober, and Godly in this present evil world. Titus 3:11-12

hmm that’s interesting especially since Lonnie Frisbee was directly responsible along with Chuck Smith Sr for building the congregation that is known as Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. Lonnie was a homosexual. He traveled a difficult journey, no doubt. But God used him in a mighty way anyway. So, according to what Mr.Broderson believes and preaches, it is not ok to attend a homosexual wedding unless it meets the conditions he lists?? HOGWASH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was born again in 1975 and was baptized by Chuck Smith Sr at Corona Del Mar. I eventually left CC and moved out of state. I have a major problem with the fact that there are any conditions put on anyone at CC or any church for that matter, that attempts to take control of my life. These are BIG REG FLAGS PEOPLE, OF A CULT. Mr Broderson…. it is NOT up to YOU to put controls on how people live their lives. If someone tells you it isn’t ok to attend a gay wedding…. RUN AWAY FROM THAT CHURCH!!! That is just plain CRAP!! He is not of GOD if he is encouraging the shunning of gays in any way , just because they are gay, he is teaching hate! That IS the bottom line people. Nothing Christian about teaching people to hate. NOT OK NOT CHRISTIAN!

Dear Sir. I don’t know how you can compare tax collectors who cheat people and the abomination of homosexuals that God destroyed in Sodom and Gammorah who want to marry. I believe that Paul said in RomansRom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
    Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. These people know that this is wrong but do it anyway because of there own reprobate minds. They don’t care what God has to say. By going to a same sex marriage you are showing your approval in the celebration of an abomination. You are showing that the laws of God mean nothing to you. Jesus means nothing then also because He said Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus died for our sin and we( being Christians) are only saved by His grace. His law still stands for the lawless. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. So no more sacrifices but there still Commandments and Statutes and the Judgements for the ungodly. Pastors have dismissed them as old school and don’t follow them. Jesus actually made them more defined. Now just looking a a women lustfully is a sin. All these laws are supposed to be written in your heart. Are you making sure you are teaching this? If not you are not being like Jesus our Savior. We will always sin it’s human nature. That is why we pray and ask forgiveness for our sins every day because we can not always stay in the spirit. I ask that you read Gods law and know what it say because I think you are overlooking a lot. The New Testament is as valid as the Old Testament, more so. I beg you please pray and seek Gods teachings. You didn’t learn everything in the cemetery I mean the seminary you only learned what you denomination teaches and not all of it is Biblical. I will pray for you brother that you will come to the knowledge of the truth. May Yahweh who is Yahshua and who in English called Jesus the Christ bless and guide you down the right path Amen

which INTERPRETATION is that from? Other interpretations are not clear as yours attempts to be. Leading me to beleive that it is ALL subject to interpretation by mere mortals. How does it handle preachers and priests in molesting children? How does it handle clergy having affairs with parishioners? How does that compare with gay men and women who are in committed relationships and want to marry to have families like everyone else? You seem to automatically put homosexuality into the sin bucket and not ok and to be shunned… teach hate not acceptance of those God made different. If you are talking morality then you must talk about ‘all’ which includes adulterers and premarital sex. Hippocrits. I am ashamed of my religion. I am NOT ashamed of my GOD. Organized religion?? YES. Teaching people to hate gays is NOT ok. bottom line.. spare me the interpretations. I’m sick of it and it is not of GOD.

Amen Karl: For who can debate GOD’S WORD??? Sad that some denominations are falling under the influence of this perverse generation in which we are living, and if repentance doesn’t come soon, GOD’S JUDGMENT is coming, for how can THE LORD allow for this wickedness and the trampling upon HIS NAME AND LAWS to keep on going – when the very young and innocent are at stake???

More than ever, true committed Christians should be united in prayer before THE LORD for in HIS MERCY HE should intervene and come against this wickedness and for HIS RIGHTEPOUSNESS to flourish again in this nation that HE so blessed above all others, but now has fallen under the worse spiritual and moral decay!

“REPENTANCE IS NEEDED NOW”!!! And we should all personally be GOD’S Instruments in opening the spiritual eyes of those who are under such darkness slavery and while still time to do so!!!

So in light of this reasoning I should be able to go to the strip club this weekend with a pocket full of singles to help win the girls to Christ? WRONG. We are to be a peculiar people. Not attending sinful practices such as a homo sexual weddings shows our lack of consent for this sin. When everyone else is doing it, we are still to please God by being different. We should be looking to please Him not our fleshly lusts or emotions.
Psalm 101:3 KJV” -I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” Don’t go look at it boys and girls

  5. Darrel June 1, 2015 at 9:24 am #

The greatest hatred one can display to another is to withhold the truth from him. Romans 1:18 refers to it like this: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of man, WHO SUPRESS THE TRUTH IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.” Jesus did indeed eat with sinners, all of His disciples were sinners, the ones He healed were sinners, even those He raised from the dead were sinners, but ALL, without exception were instructed to “go and sin no more”. The sin of homosexuality has always been described as an “abomination”. This will never change despite the wishful thinking of those wicked people who “suppress the truth in unrighteousness”. There is no such thing as “gay marriage” except in the minds of those who “suppress the truth in unrighteousness”. The Lord Jesus will never sanction such nonsense, for to do so it would be necessary for Him to change His character—“Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, FOREVER.”

The lgbtq crowd push their agenda effectively because they have intimidated the church (not the Church) into silence and acceptance of their abominations. They use lies at every turn to convince the gullible and ignorant masses that have been victims forever and now it’s time to turn the tables. Revenge is so obviously their primary goal. Revenge on the God who declares them an abomination to Himself and revenge on those that have been regenerated and who dare to call them out for their sins. They will not stop until every professing Christian has denied His God, repudiated His Word, and bowed at their feet seeking the “forgiveness” they demand. All this because the real Christian will speak the truth to them.

Psa. 66:18 says “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” and Psa. 5:5 says, “The boastful shall not stand in Your sight, You hate all the workers of iniquity”. The fantasy god you have constructed to accept and bless your abominations is not the Holy God of the Scriptures. These two verses from Psalms should tell where you stand with Him. The fact is that as long as you cherish your abominations of homosexuality (and other sins) you have no standing with Him at all. Not only will He not listen to your pathetic pleas for acceptance of your abomination, He will continue to hate you unless and until you turn from your sins and unto Him seeking the forgiveness and mercy found only in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is how it is, whether you agree with it, like it or reject it. The God Whom you currently hate is in charge of you for now and all eternity.

We have had this in our own family. As Christians my husband and I did not want to support any sin whether it be stealing, adultry, or homosexuality. All sin seperates us from Christ. Yes Christ eat and preached to sinners- which is pretty much all of us. I did not go to the wedding because even though I love my family member and always will , I could not go and celebrate his sin. I won’t go to a party to celebrate a person having an affair, but I would still love that person. The family member understood. I guess we have to ask ourselves what is the purpose in life?As Christians the answer is always – for the glory of God. That is our sole purpose – to glorify God and we have to ask ourselves is where we go and what we do glorifying God? If it’s going to the movies or a same sex union is it glorfying God,the Word, and Jesus?

    • joanne January 23, 2017 at 12:15 pm #

You are an extremist to shun that family member. You’re bordering on cultish. I’m a Christian too but I refuse to shun anyone in my family just because they are gay or different. How c on descending can you be! I’m telling you that is where the hate is grown! Satan is sly enough to get you to believe that it is ok to shun loved ones just because they’re gay. How cult like!! Yes, I said cult!

    To Karl Hueur…

The main sin of sodom and Gommorah was lack of hospitality not homosexuality. Its easy to twist scripture to prove your point.

      great observation Logan!

    • Karl Heuer June 2, 2015 at 7:16 am #

Them you believe that Sodom and Gammorah was destroyed because the people were to hospitable. Think about it brother God doesn’t destroy cities because they have nice people in them . I guess you don’t know where the word Sodomy came from sod·omy\ˈsä-də-mē\
      : anal sex with someone
      Full Definition
: anal or oral copulation with a member of the same or opposite sex; also : copulation with an animal
      sod·om·it·ic \ˌsä-də-ˈmi-tik\ or sod·om·it·i·cal \-ti-kəl\ adjective
Origin: Middle English, from Anglo-French sodomie, from Late Latin Sodoma Sodom; from the homosexual proclivities of the men of the city in Genesis 19:1–11.
First use: 13th century. I would suggest you do a little more research on the subject Brother before you come to rash conclusions. I pray for your success

    • lyn June 5, 2015 at 9:01 pm #

“Ezekiel 16:49-50 declares, “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me…” The Hebrew word translated “detestable” refers to something that is morally disgusting and is the exact same word used in Leviticus 18:22 that refers to homosexuality as an “abomination.” Similarly, Jude 7 declares, “…Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion.” So, again, while homosexuality was not the only sin in which the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah indulged, it does appear to be the primary reason for the destruction of the cities.

Those who attempt to explain away the biblical condemnations of homosexuality claim that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was inhospitality. The men of Sodom and Gomorrah were certainly being inhospitable. There is probably nothing more inhospitable than homosexual gang rape. But to say God completely destroyed two cities and all their inhabitants for being inhospitable clearly misses the point. While Sodom and Gomorrah were guilty of many other horrendous sins, homosexuality was the reason God poured fiery sulfur on the cities, completely destroying them and all of their inhabitants. To this day, the area where Sodom and Gomorrah were located remains a desolate wasteland. Sodom and Gomorrah serve as a powerful example of how God feels about sin in general, and homosexuality specifically.” – – –

Take note as well in Romans 1, when truth is suppressed, then the downward progression into sin begins. When a rotting culture suppresses God’s truth, God turns them over to their lustful desires, which includes all kinds of sins, ending with perverse sexual sin. It’s interesting to note that when a society embraces and practices homosexuality, it isn’t long before judgment is unleashed. America is in grave danger of this very judgment, for it is looming over this nation as we speak.

    • Manny1962 January 23, 2017 at 1:05 pm #

The biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah is recorded in Genesis chapters 18-19. Genesis chapter 18 records the Lord and two angels coming to speak with Abraham. The Lord informed Abraham that “the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous.” Verses 22-33 record Abraham pleading with the Lord to have mercy on Sodom and Gomorrah because Abraham’s nephew, Lot, and his family lived in Sodom.

Genesis chapter 19 records the two angels, disguised as human men, visiting Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot met the angels in the city square and urged them to stay at his house. The angels agreed. The Bible then informs us, “Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom — both young and old — surrounded the house. They called to Lot, ‘Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.'” The angels then proceed to blind all the men of Sodom and Gomorrah and urge Lot and his family to flee from the cities to escape the wrath that God was about to deliver. Lot and his family flee the city, and then “the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah — from the LORD out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities…”

In light of the passage, the most common response to the question “What was the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?” is that it was homosexuality. That is how the term “sodomy” came to be used to refer to anal sex between two men, whether consensual or forced. Clearly, homosexuality was part of why God destroyed the two cities. The men of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to perform homosexual gang rape on the two angels (who were disguised as men). At the same time, it is not biblical to say that homosexuality was the exclusive reason why God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were definitely not exclusive in terms of the sins in which they indulged.

Ezekiel 16:49-50 declares, “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.

How about we go to an orgy with the adulterers? Should we help the thieves load up their cars with stolen loot? The truly moral question is should we be participants in their sin or love them outside the sin in the agape sense? Going to the wedding validates their rebellion and joins hands with them against the Bible and God’s plan for marriage between a man and a woman. By going, what does it say about our witness to non-believers? (Answer: “Oh look, honey. Those Christians are here to say gay marriage is OK with Jesus.”) His position is a shallow cave-in and damaging to the Word of God …. He is tickling the ears of those who cannot hear true doctrine … Shame on him.

I feel by going to a same sex wedding, believer or not, you are saying you support this action. If others that attend and are not Christians see you, and know you are a Christian, you are sending a wrong message. They are not going to stop the wedding, repent and turn from their wicked ways just because YOU showed up. Some are so spiritly minded you are no earthly good. Sin is sin call it as it is, don’t be apart of it. Love the sinner, hate the sin, but you don’t have to join their activities to prove you love them. They are closed heart, they are not going to listen to you.

It’s the other way around when it comes to being a closed heart.think about that for a minute. You are growing a hatred in the church. That is where this hatred of gays is rooted. I truly believe Brian and Cheryl are amazing lovers of Christ! Key word Brian used was the word MAY. I don’t think Jesus would be happy with the body of Christ being destroyed. We are all a work in progress and Brian loves Jesus with his entire being. I do not think poorly of his veiws as he’s an imperfect human. Shant we Earthlings just take that telephone pole out of our own eye b4 looking at the tiny speck in someone elses eye? Oh, my brain things this: “How many Pastors are invited over for dinner at home? The humans who invite them may drink a lot but, the Calvary Pastor will not. And if u drinking humans drink infront of ex-alcoholics tempting ur brother/ sister to stumble its not cool.” Pray for urselves, our world leaders, revival, and for us to all be more like Christ. Go and sin no more is a great idea, but I am a stinking human! So, let’s not allow Satan to tear an amazing man of God down. Shame on us all who do. Did you all know Papa Chuck Smith? What a loving man who taught love! He is the only Pastor at the beginning of Calvary that allowed people to give offering and if people needed it they could take. He also was upset when his elders posted shoes needed to be worn. So, he was a down to earth real human man that wasn’t at all judmental. He personally appointed his son-in-law this position. So, lets all pray for ourselves and others and stop making Satan do the HAPPY DANCE! Satan is so stoked when u Christians hurt Gods people. We are all a work in progress and leave it to our Gracious Savior to change our hearts. The Helper within us all will be our compus to know the God Breathed word. Thank you for gifting our brothers and sisters in Christ prayer 🙂

Foundation crack Sa-more( it’s not a real word)
Here is a link exposing what B. BRODERSEN allows in CCCM.
Maybe he gets a kick- back from tee shirt sales!?

The site ( thelasthicker) has other videos and especially a Pastor’s prospective radio broadcast with Ryan Reis “vouching” Brian heads salvation ( who does that)

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

This site talks about how “the whatsoever visits strip clubs ” to reach sinners” really?

    B. BRODERSEN is all over the place! A real mess cat!

I am leaving a link to Brian Head giving out communion at a different church.
This is BEFORE he rejoined the group KORN.
It is ( in my opinion) disturbing.

I attend CCCM and have for years. I will not approach B.B. about this because he is very unaproachable. His hands in his pockets arms crossed when he talks to his ” fliock” after service.
I am not saying anyone’s salvation is real or not.
    That’s btwn them and GOD.
But there is some stinky rotting fruit behind the pulpit at CCCM

Agree, he comes on “Pastors Perspective” and I’ve really stopped listening to that one program on Hope FM. So sad because Chuck Smith was such a blessing on that show. Today’s show was how Eastern had no relationship to anything Pagan. Are you kidding? It is filled with pagan images. This show is becoming a joke on an otherwise very good radio station and ministry.

I have to say something regarding the above video. I think they call this ” DRUNK ON GOD”
I am just wondering if B. BRODERSEN has seen this?
BRIAN HEAD was telling his testimony at CCCM!

  16. Franz April 1, 2016 at 8:38 pm #

Yes Jesus “ate with sinners” but last time I checked, eating isn’t sinful. The bible doesn’t read “Jesus attended an orgy with sinners”. I think a thorough reading of the scriptures makes it very plain to see that attending a gay wedding is condoning a disgusting and vile act. Satan has perverted something beautiful and holy and the unbelieving world is using cunning words to persuade people that it isn’t so bad. Don’t be fooled, we can still love gays without attending their perversion events.

I wouldn’t want you there with you attitude. People are just people like you. They bleed red like you. They hurt like you too. Christian’s that ostracized gay people suXceed only at growing a hstred. Listen, they did with blacks for years before civil rights. They are also trying to do it now with women who are demanding civil rights for all. Wake up people.

It is a sin to attend a gay wedding, period.
Because, gay marriage is a sin. If you are there, you are condoning the sin.
And that is a sin. There is nothing in the Bible to justify this, or any other sin.
Shame on all of those who have stated to the contrary.

You don’t love your enemy by winking at poison, you love them by warning them about it. It’s really elementary to understand.
You can’t honor God by condoning sin. There is never a justification for that. Those who don’t get it have had their consciences seared.

Amen, the words that I wanted to express against attending an homosexual wedding, they already have written here and above all, by giving reverence and honor to what THE LORD mentions in HIS WORD in reference to homosexuality, who can’t ignore GOD’S ADMONITIONS and for the sake of making others feel loved, when they openly trampling against HIS COMMANDMENTS??? … foolishness it is!!!

Pstor Brian totally made a mistake on saying that it was alright for the parents of someone marrying under what THE LORD calls an abomination – to attend such sacrilegious ceremony (‘for the sake of showing love to one close to them”) – for in that – they would be showing acceptance to them and everyone else there on their despicable union and against GOD’S PRECEPTS and for which GOD’S JUDGMENT comes: “All things shall pass away, but not GOD’S WORD”!!!

We sometimes fail in our words and in our convictions, and may this be recognized as such: Yes … THE LORD talked with sinners, but never in any way let them believed that HE was agreeing with them and for sure not celebrating any kind of sinful living .. if we have HIS DISCERNMENT … easy to understand and apply it in our daily lives and in reference with such deviant life style that in any form we shouldn’t be given any idea of our acceptance: When THE LORD talked with the woman in sinful living, HE said to her: “Go and sin no more” …

You talk like a cult member. I’m a Christian too and I will think for myself when it comes to my family and friends. A preacher is not God. God knows my heart, people like you do not. I swear to God almighty, organized religion is becoming more like a cult! It is heart breaking. People need to quit being so rigid that you regect your own loved ones because their not a clone you and your beliefs

I agree with the sinfulness of attending a gay wedding for another, additional reason. Not only does it suggest that it condones, it makes you a participant. Easily forgotten is that a wedding is a ceremony. Those who attend are participants by being witness to the ceremony. How often have we heard the opening remarks of the minister that says these famous lines, “Ladies and Gentlemen, we are gathered here today to witness this man and this woman…”?

The wedding ceremony isn’t just between the couple getting married – it’s a gathering of the community to celebrate and agree upon the event they witness before them. This leaves no question for me.

1 Timothy 5:22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.

If you are there, you are partaking, because you are playing a role

Today we heard CCCM’s Pastor Brian Brodersen and his wife chastising the host of the Pastor’s Perspective radio show for having used the King James Version of the Holy Bible in a recent service. Pastor and Mrs. Brodersen even confronted him – boldly, and asked him WHY he used the KJV.

The Brodersens are the “bosses” of the Pastor’s Perspective host, and so the host was forced to cough out an answer to their probing questions on the air.

We have studied under the late Pastor Chuck Smith and Pastor David Hocking, and both pastors have relied on the KJV for decades.

Good job Marsha. Your final paragraph is excellent. I wrote a long article about this at

Marriage is a covenant made by The Lord for a Man and Woman. To take His covenant of marriage and pervert it is mocking God. Homosexuals seek marriage only to try to justify the guilt they feel inside. They parade in the street protesting and yet they are not discriminated against these days yet they continue to fight and cause civil unrest. Why? It is because the guilt they harbor inside of their lifestyle. They think by trying to gain acceptance by all men that the guilt will go away. Yet, it will not because it is a spiritual issue. It is a sin. The homosexual agenda has stolen Gods covenant to Noah and to us “Rainbow” and used it as their logo. Now they still His contract of marriage and pervert it. Duet 19:15. These are the 2 things that will witness again them. Its sad because it is Satan behind the scenes leading them to their own judgement. What is worse is the fact that a man like Broderson has no glue of these things yet he is leading a church. To be a believer and accept homosexual marriage is worse than the blind man. Believers are supposed to be able to teach clearly and help people, leading them to the freedom and truth of Christ to be set free from the bondage of the sin. Brian Broderson is leading them deeper into their sin by accepting and participating in their marriages that The Lord does not accept. Chuck Smith was a humble man who God used greatly and millions of people came to true salvation in Christ. Now, Brian Broderson is slowly leading many down the path of destruction. Sad!

Baloney! Why don’t you go join a cult. That’s how you sound for God’s sake! Think for yourself!

Joanne, you sound a little unhinged. As you identify as a Christian woman, let me share with you some teachings from your own Bible that may sound hateful, but are loving words from the mouth of God Almighty to His Children. Ready? Here goes:

Matthew 7:15-23 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.’”

Matthew 24: 3-14; 24-25 “As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many. You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Vs. 24): For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. (25) Behold, I have told you in advance.”

2 Peter 2:1-3 “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.”

Romans 16:18 “For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.”

2 Corinthians 2:17 “Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.”

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.”

1 Thessalonians 2:5 “You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed–God is our witness.”

Acts 20:28-31 “Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.”

1 Timothy 6:5 “…and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.”

Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Titus 1:7-11 “For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain.”

James 3: 1 “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.”

Titus 2:1 “But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.”

Galatians 1:6-9 “I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!”

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 “But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of a brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler-not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those on the outside. Remove the evil person from among you.”

Galatians 1:10 “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Titus 2:7-8 “…in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21 “But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good…”

1 John 4:1 “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

2 Timothy 1:13-14 “Hold fast (retain) the pattern of sound words (doctrine) which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.”

2 Timothy 3:12-17 “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 4:1-4 “I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

2 Timothy 4:16 “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”

2 Thessalonians 2: 8-12 “Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.”

2 Thessalonians 2:15 “So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.”

1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”

2 John 1:7-11 “For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.”

Jude 3 “Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.”

Amen and amen Amy! I’m up to my gills with the acceptance of sin under the guise of “don’t judge, or you’ll be judged” nonsense, there’s so little discernment left. Sin is sin, but somehow homosexuality gets a privileged pass, even though God destroyed two ancient cities because if it.
