Word of Faith False Teacher Joyce Meyer’s Shocking Doctrine and Heresy

For those who haven’t heard this before, Christian celeb Joyce Meyer is a false teacher. In 2011 Fran Sankey of Tower of Truth Ministries and host of Test All Things radio broadcast discussed Mrs. Meyer’s unbiblical and problematic teaching on her program. We’re posting the transcript, which is well worth the read for anyone who is in the dark about this woman. To listen to the show, scroll down to the end for the link. Sankey begins with some background on Mrs. Meyer and then fills us in on the reasons that some of her teaching is considered heretical. You don’t have to take Sankey’s word for it. Listen to the sound clips of Joyce Meyer she has provided.

Sankey begins:

Joyce Meyer

[Meyer] is a very popular author, conference speaker and Bible teacher based in the Saint Louis area. Meyer has a multimillion dollar ministry called Joyce Meyer Ministries and can be found on the net at www.joycemeyer.org. She also has an extremely popular TV and Radio programme called Enjoying Everyday Life which can be seen and heard on hundreds and hundreds of Radio and TV stations nationally and worldwide. Meyer teaches on some very practical issues making her well received such as forgiveness, dealing with a busy life, , anxiety, addictions and self-discipline. She is especially loved by tens of thousands of women who hold her teachings up as being life changing. Joyce Meyer gained even more prominence when she made it to the cover story of Time Magazine in February of 2005 as one in the list of 25 most influential Evangelicals in America and by the way she is also in the September 18th 2006 issue of Time Magazine and she has also been on the cover of Charisma Magazine.

Well as popular as Joyce Meyer is this certainly doesn’t mean her teaching shouldn’t be held up under the light of the scriptures. We are commanded to test all things, examine the prophets, rightly divide the Word of truth and test the Spirits for not all come from God. As always I will be testing the teaching of Joyce Meyer and not judging her relationship with God. Only God knows if she has been born again by the Spirit. Only he knows what is in her heart and if she has truly repented and trusted in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of her sins.

Joyce Meyer – Jesus Tormented in Hell by Satan and Demons (click this link to listen to the sound clip)

(audio clip) Joyce Meyer, “The Devil thought he had it, the devil thought he had won. Oh they were having the biggest party that has ever been had. They had my Jesus on the floor and they were standing on his back jumping up and down laughing and he had become sin. Don’t you think that God was pacing wanting to put a stop to what was going on. All the hosts of hell were up on him, up on him, up on him. The angels are in agony, all the creation is groaning. All the hosts of hell was up on him, up on him, they got on him. They got him down in the floor and got on him and they were laughing and mocking, “haha you trusted God and look where you ended up. You thought he would save you and get you off that cross – he didn’t haha.”

Just in case you doubt Joyce right now she wrote in her above mentioned, quote, “There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth I am presenting. You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with all your heart that Jesus took your place in hell.” Continue reading

First, what does the Bible say?

It is necessary that we Christians use biblical discernment when supporting any preacher and teacher of the gospel.  It is irrelevant whether or not we like the person, think the person is a good speaker, or if the person says things that are uplifting.  Instead, we must be as noble as the Bereans.

  • Acts 17:11, “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.”
  • 1 Cor. 4:6, “Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to exceed what is written, in order that no one of you might become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.”

If the Bible says that even Paul was checked by scripture, and that we are not to exceed scripture’s teaching, then aren’t we obligated to judge what Mrs. Meyer says against the word of God?  Of course we are.  It is not enough to just believe what she says, no matter how good the words are or how well she presents them.  Let’s not be taken in by a public figure who is confident, assertive, and appears to be biblical.  Our duties as Christians include biblical discernment – which can only be done by examining what she says and comparing it with Scripture.

What does Joyce Meyer teach?

From the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (CARM) site:

“For the most part, Joyce Meyer preaches a positive, biblical message that is of great value to many people.  We applaud her desire to be biblical, to point women to godly submission and humility, to trusting God, being loving, to have value based on what Christ has done for us, etc.  These are all good.  However, there are some very significant errors that we need to address.  Some of them are so bad that she is outside of biblical orthodoxy and must be considered a false teacher.  Let’s take a look at what Joyce Meyer has said.

Following is a list of quotes from Joyce Meyer, along with responses.

  1. Jesus stopped being the Son of God:  “He could have helped himself up until the point where he said I commend my spirit into your hands, at that point he couldn’t do nothing for himself anymore. He had become sin, he was no longer the Son of God. He was sin.” (http://storage.carm.org/joycemeyer/joyce-meyer-Jesus-became-sin-stopped-being-son-of-God.mp3)
    1. Response:  This is heresy.  Jesus did not ever stop becoming the son of God.  Essentially what she is saying is that Jesus stopped being divine, the eternal son, second person of the Trinity. This is an attack on the very nature of Christ and it is a dangerous false teaching.  Joyce Meyer needs to repent and retract this statement.  There is no place in Scripture that says Jesus stopped being the son of God.  She’s adding to the word of God and placing in the hearts and minds of listeners false doctrine.
  2. Jesus was born again:  “The minute that blood sacrifice was accepted Jesus was the first human being that was ever born again,” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neKsa_74w7k&feature=related)
    1. Response:  This is just plain wrong.  Being born again means to be saved from the wrath of God for a person’s sins (Eph. 2:1-3), to have a new birth (John 3:3), and to be regenerated (2 Cor. 5:17).  Mrs. Meyer is simply wrong biblically.  Why does she teach this?  It can only be because she has bought into many of the errors of the Positive Confession movement where many say that Jesus lost his divine nature, went to hell, finished the atonement in hell, and was born again!  These are serious errors.
  3. Jesus paid for our sins in hell:  “He became our sacrifice and died on the cross. He did not stay dead. He was in the grave three days. During that time he entered hell, where you and I deserve to go (legally) because of our sin. He paid the price there.” (The most important decision you’ll ever make, by Joyce Meyer, second printing, may 1993, page 35)
    • Response:  This is blatantly wrong.  Jesus did not pay the price of our redemption in hell.  He paid the price on the cross.  It was finished on the cross when he said, “It is finished,” (John 19:30).  Also, consider the following verses:
    • Col. 1:20, “and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.”
    • Col. 2:14, “having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”
    • 1 Pet. 2:24, “and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.”
  4. Jesus went to hell in our place and was tormented:  “Jesus paid on the cross and went to hell in my place. Then as God had promised, on the third day Jesus rose from the dead. The scene in the spirit realm went something like this: God rose up from his throne and said to demon powers tormenting the sinless son of God, ‘let him go.’ Then the resurrection power of Almighty God went through hell and filled Jesus. On earth his grave where they had buried him was filled with light as the power of God filled his body. He was resurrected from the dead — the first born again man.” (The most important decision you’ll ever make, by Joyce Meyer, second printing, may 1993, page 36)
    • Response:  Where does she get this entirely fictitious dialogue between God and the demon powers?  It is made up, not founded in scripture, and mistakenly assumes that Jesus went to hell, the place of torment and suffering after he died on the cross.  The Bible does not teach any such thing.  However, it does say that Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth (Eph. 4:9).  This can mean that Jesus was physically buried, or that Jesus went to Hades to inform those who had already died about who he was and what he did on the cross, or it can be referring to his incarnation as is contrasted with his ascending into heaven (Eph. 4:10).  But there is simply no reason to believe that Jesus suffered in hell and finished the atonement there.  See response to Quote 1.
  5. If you don’t believe Jesus went to hell, you cannot be saved:   “His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserve to go… There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth.” (The most important decision you’ll ever make, by Joyce Meyer, second printing, may 1993, page 37)
    1. Response:  This is an amazingly bad statement on her part.  She is saying that you cannot be saved from your sins unless you believe that Jesus went to  hell where we deserve to go.  This is a false modification of the gospel which is found in 1 Cor. 15:1-4 and states that the gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  Nowhere in scripture are we told to believe that Jesus suffered for us in hell or that he went there.   This is not only wrong, it is heretical.
  6. We are called little gods:  “I was listening to a set of tapes by one man and he explained it like this..this kind of gets the point across…he said why do people have such a fit about God calling his creation, his creation, his man not his whole creation, but his man, little gods? If he’s God what’s he going to call them but the God kind? I mean if you as a human being have a baby you call it a human kind. If if [sic] cattle has another cattle they call it cattle kind. I mean what is God supposed to call ’em? Doesn’t the Bible say we are created in his image? Now you understand I am not saying you are god with a capital G. That is not the issue here so don’t go trying to stone me or yell blasphemy at me.” “The Bible says right here John 10:34…’and Jesus answered is it not written in your law I say we are gods.’ So men are called God’s by the law…”(Joyce Meyer). (www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrP3OLCH9GI&feature=related)
    1. Response:  In this clip she goes on to quote John 10:34 where Jesus says to the Pharisees “you are gods,” which is a quote from Psalm 82:6, which is an imprecatory Psalm of condemnation for the unrighteous judges.  Psalm 82:7 says, “nevertheless you will die like men.”  She then turned to Psalm 82 and went through it.  The video stopped, so I do not know what she would have said about the next, all-important verse.
  7. Joyce Meyer said she is not a sinner:  “I am not poor. I am not miserable and I am not a sinner. That is a lie from the pit of hell. That is what I were and if I still was then Jesus died in vain. I’m going to tell you something folks. I didn’t stop sinning until I finally got it through my thick head I wasn’t a sinner anymore. And the religious world thinks that’s heresy and they want to hang you for it. But the Bible says that I am righteous and I can’t be righteous and be a sinner at the same time.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dmHJdM63hk)
    1. Response:  Mrs. Meyer needs a lesson in basic biblical theology.  1 John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”  Notice that John the apostle says “we.”  He includes himself with sinners.  Also, Paul said in Rom. 7:19-20, 24, “For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not wish, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me…24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?”  Is Joyce Meyer better in Christian character than John and Paul?  I think not.  Mrs. Meyer fails to recognize her own sinfulness, and so mistakenly denies her own sinfulness.  I can only conclude that this false teaching comes from pride because it certainly isn’t biblical.
  8. The host of hell were literally on Jesus and were laughing:  “They were having the biggest party that had ever been had. They had my Jesus in the floor and they were standing on his back jumping up and down laughing. And he had become sin. Don’t you think that God was pacing, wanting to put a stop to what was going on? All the host of hell were upon him. Upon him. Up on him. The angels were in agony.  All the creation is groaning. All the host of hell was upon him. Up on him. They got on him. They got him down in the floor and got on him and they were laughing and mocking. Ha ha ha ha. You trusted God and look where you ended up. You thought he’d save you and get you off that cross. He didn’t, ha ha ha.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwNfOaxIcOMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwNfOaxIcOM)
    1. Response:  Where did she get this – in the sacred Book of Joycemeyeronomy?  It is certainly not in the Bible, and yet she has no problem teaching it as an authoritative truth.  Does she not know that the Bible says not to exceed what is written (1 Cor. 4:6)?  She has done exactly that.  She is in grave error and has violated God’s word that says that Jesus bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24) and finished the atonement on the cross (John 19:30) – not in hell at the hands of demons!  There is no way demons were literally standing ‘on’ Jesus.  Meyer is in gross error!
  9. Joyce Meyer gets revelation knowledge:  “The Bible can’t even find any way to explain this. Not really that is why you have got to get it by revelation. There are no words to explain what I am telling you. I have got to just trust God that he is putting it into your spirit like he put it into mine.” (http://storage.carm.org/audio/joycemeyer/joyce-meyer-revelation-knowledge.mp3)
    1. Response:  Revelation knowledge?  Is she on par with the apostles who received revelation knowledge from God himself?  Or how about the Old Testament prophets?  Does she, like them, also receive revelation knowledge from God?  If so, how would we know if it were true or not? The answer is simple:  we test what she says against Scripture, and it is obvious that she is getting a lot of things from somewhere else that contradict the word of God.

Joyce Meyer is a preacher

As unpopular as it might be to say, Joyce Meyer is wrong for occupying the position of a preacher of God’s word.  Not only does she preach false doctrines, but she also functions as a preacher by teaching God’s word, exegeting it, applying it, and telling people what to believe – in public.  She is out of place for doing this.  She speaks as a minister of the gospel teaching with authority.  She needs to stop.  If you doubt this, and if you also believe the word of God, then please see the article Should women be pastors and elders?

The devil’s PRIMARY tool for the destruction of the church is “divide and conquer”. And I’m sure he appreciates foolish Christians for doing their part to help him all they can. God is a God of multiplication not DIVISION.

Jesus did take our place in hell. What Bible are you reading?? Laurie, Anacortes WA

      • Robert E. Krotzer February 27, 2021 at 11:02 pm #

Of course Jesus took our place in hell. KJB. I always knew that. But the Lord showed me what I did not know for I was telling people he was in hell for 3 days and 3 nights as Jonah suffered in the belly of the whale which he called HELL. Jonah 2:2.

The Lord caused me to be sentenced to 10 days in jail for not having the cash in a divorce for her half the house in Oct. 99. I called my neighbor and told him I would be in Jail 10 days.

They put me in cell block H and cell 7. (I look for 7s and the Lord puts them in awesome situations for me which is proof he favors me.) The inmates told me I would only be there 5 days ’cause you get 2 days credit for each day in jail. Later I saw that the Lord had given me the awesome answer to a great Bible mystery!

From 3 pm Fri. to 3 am Sun. is just 2 nights and is 36 hours not 72 (3 days) It is half the time and I was in jail half the time. So, hell was so horrific that Father God, in love, brought Jesus out after half the 3 days that he expected. He did not lie nor did I when I said I would be in Jail for 10 days.

If you go to my timeline in Facebook look to find my story The Greatest Story Never Told that tells this and all the Bible proof that the Gospel is: “The Lord took our place in hell.” Notice it’s just 7 words. I have many beyond belief “7 Stories” that the Lord often makes happen for me. Look for 7s and be amazed to have stories too since you are a believer of the TRUTH. God hates liars!

The Bible teaches that division comes from wrong doctrine (Romans 16:17).
Therefore, it is Joyce Meyer who is divisive. She’s the one bringing division.

    • Sam March 10, 2021 at 5:41 pm #

      Bereans huh?

It says in Acts 2.24 Christ descended down to the pit of Hell..where the PAINS OF DEATH were loosed. lol..that’s not Paradise and comfort but torment as the birth pangs of a horrible place of no escape. Read the account of Lazarus and the rich man. Abraham’s bosom is paradise, a place of comfort.

Death and hell are two different things.

“God is a God of multiplication, not DIVISION.”

I have one answer for this:-

    Luke 12:51-53 KJV
[51] Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: [52] For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. [53] The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

That was Jesus talking. He is God. And He said that He came to bring division.
Please read your bible carefully before making comments that contradict God’s word.

Amen!! It is sad when folks respond from emotions rather than logic.

  3. David December 17, 2015 at 8:35 am #

Yes, The Lord brings a sword of division in FAMILIES – where one or more becomes His and others don’t – it’s very sad but true. However we also know how He feels about those who bring division in the brethren and I’m troubled to see Berean Research spreading a story that digs up somebody’s sins from over 20 years ago.

When she was younger, JM followed the teaching of arch heretics Kenneths Hagan and Copeland but as she grew to study the scriptures for herself, she saw these things were false. She stopped printing her gospel tract with that story on it and she took it out if her books and no longer preached it.

Unfortunately for her, though she no longer believes or teaches it, and hasn’t since at least 1993 / 94, brethren keep going back to the grave and digging up the stinking corpse to display it to others.

This post should really be deleted as we fear The Lord Who says “as we judge, we will be judged”. In this instance, her PAST sin of heretical teaching has been buried – as are our sins. Long gone. I certainly wouldn’t want mine thrown up from 20+ years ago!

I’ve seen other Christians stand up for the truth on behalf of this woman – and they are shot down as false Christians themselves. Many, like myself, have no time for or inclination towards her, but a true Berean who searches these things diligently will see it is so.

In other words, this is an old and very out of date story. In my opinion, it would be prudent to delete and not share although we are thankful to this ministry for the good work it does.
    In Jesus’ Name.

    • Cinde Murphy September 7, 2019 at 8:58 am #

Are her books, CDs, podcasts, etc etc still available? Because I know they still are, those teachings are still on her. I just had a Christian woman counselor tell me yesterday to read JM book and JO!! (9/2019). She told me my chronic pain of past 25 years was based on emotions and one can have heaven on Earth. Seriously? I’ll wait for Jesus thank you.

If what you say is true then tell me why she continues to publicly teach. Why is her ministry building right up the street from where I live? She still continues to preach and teach the same message she always has. By the way I have lived one block away from her big ministry building for six years and within three miles for fifteen years. Her ministry has not done one outreach or evangelizing during this time. What is her true intentions? To spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Or to line her pockets?

  4. Darrel December 18, 2015 at 4:58 pm #

Joyce Meyer has got to be one of the most flamboyant and yet most despicable false teachers of our day. She is a female version of happy face Osteen that cannot comprehend the Gospel nor the Character of the God she claims to talk about. She is the leader of her own cult that feigns righteousness and delivers tickets to hell for all her followers. Since there is not one recorded instance of any cult leader ever becoming a convert to real Christianity it would be wise of those who listen to her lies to abandon her and her teachings before they, too, are caught in the downward spiral from which there is no escape. And no, Paul was not a leader of a cult, but he was a member of one just like many who have been delivered from their sins by the blood of the Lord Jesus.

Beware the smooth talking smily face that wants your money and carries a martyr complex around on their shoulder

    • Martha J. Liddell April 15, 2021 at 8:54 pm #

      Amen and Amen Bro. Darrel.

  5. CJ January 4, 2016 at 1:51 pm #

It is a good sign that Joyce is a blessing and teaching the truth since you had to go all the way back to 1991 to find something to criticize her for. It is not wise to nitpick God’s anointed.

    • Amanda March 26, 2017 at 7:42 pm #

How do you know she’s anointed? She has lied and said Jesus was the first one to be born again. Jesus never sinned, Jesus did not have to be born again. She lied and said she is not a sinner. 1 John 1:8 John the Apostle said ” If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
She made a bible with a huge picture of her face on it and with huge letters her name written on the cover, it was advertised in a magazine. I didn’t see ” Jesus ” or ” God ” written on the cover. I think something is wrong with that. People should obey Jesus and God and listen to the apostles, the prophets over any preacher that doesn’t say the word of God correctly.

      • Amanda March 26, 2017 at 7:47 pm #

If Joyce Meyer has repented to Jesus for the lies and started telling people the word of God correctly and tells the truth about Jesus now then I would understand listening to her. If she didn’t and doesn’t tell the truth about Jesus and God then I wouldn’t listen to her teach about Jesus, God, and the Holy Bible anymore.

        • Victor Martinez September 6, 2020 at 11:37 am #

Amanda, God is not the author of confusion and that is what JM teaches …error, confusion and blasphemy. God’s Word has not and will not ever change. JM will give account to God one day!

  6. Victoria January 6, 2016 at 9:19 am #

I am sure none of us have it 100 % right. I have watched her for years and have many of her tapes and cds. I believe in her ministry and support it. I believe she loves God and is trying to spread his gospel to the lost. She spends a lot of money helping different types of much neglected issues of humanity. Those that try to tear her down is wrong. Is it jealousy that makes people dislike her? I don’t know who is absolutely certain of what Jesus did those 3 days except we know by scripture that he preached to the captives. Isn’t the only real issue is to love and trust God for salvation? To believe in his death, burial and resurrection? To make him the Lord of your life?

    • Amanda March 26, 2017 at 7:35 pm #

What bothers me is she came out with the ‘Joyce Meyer Bible’ with a big picture of her face on it and with big letters with her name. The Bible is God’s Bible, Jesus’s Bible. Not the Joyce Meyer’s Bible.
It is reported that Joyce Meyer said she is not a sinner, I read that in other articles written by other writers.
1 John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” The writer of this article said: Notice that John the apostle says “we.” Like what the writer of this article said, he includes himself with sinners.
I don’t want to read any bible with someone’s face on it. I think it takes away from paying attention to God. People should not follow Joyce Meyer like an idol, God said not to worship idols. Even if Joyce Meyer does not want people to worship her, I think atleast some people may try to do that and with a huge picture of her face on the cover of her bibles I think people are in danger of loving her and listening to her more than God and Jesus.
And of what I’ve read, I have not seen it that Jesus was punished in hell. Joyce Meyer reportedly said Jesus was the first man to be born again, the truth is Jesus did not have to be born again, Jesus never sinned.

    • Robert E. Krotzer February 28, 2021 at 12:17 am #

Victoria, Jesus said he would be in the heart of the earth for 3 days and 3 nights just as Jonah was suffering in the belly of the whale which he called HELL. (Jonah 2:2) KJB. Jesus greatly feared what God needed him to do to save us. Jesus said Fear not them which can kill the body and not the soul, but fear him which can destroy both body and soul in hell.

We are dipped in water to understand that God dipped Jesus in hell. (Rom. 6:3-5) He was in the grave with the wicked and his soul (not body) was made the offering for sin. (Isaiah 53:9-10) The dead are only in hell, and Jesus rose from the dead. I always knew Jesus took our place in hell by reading the KJB that is only God’s words.

The Lord showed me what I did not know by going to jail for 10 days in a divorce since I did not have the cash for her half of the house quick enough. I was put in cell block H and cell 7. The inmates said you get 2 days credit for each day in jail so I would be there for half the time 5 days.

Later I saw that the Lord gave me the answer to a great Bible mystery! 3 pm Fri. to 3 am Sun. Is just 2 nights and is 36 hours not 72. So hell was so horrific that Father God, in love, brought Jesus out after half the 3 days that he expected just as I was sentenced to 10 days, but served 5.

Many have searched for ever for this answer, but they would never like the answer because most deny that Jesus took our place in hell. If no one took your place in hell then you will go there!

On my timeline in Facebook you can find my story The Greatest Story Never Told. I look for 7s and the Lord puts them in awesome situations for me as proof that he favors me. I have many beyond belief “7 Stories.” Look for 7s and he will give you stories to tell!

Victoria, when she pays herself $900,000 per year, flies around in a $10 million private jet, drives a $100,000 Mercedes, lives in a $2 million home, has a net worth of over $25 million, and poops on a $23,000 toilet, ALL FROM “ministry to the lost” I’m not sure she’s all that concerned about the lost…

    • CJ February 5, 2016 at 2:55 pm #

      Patrick, look for the facts
Joyce sells Billions of books every year. She CONTRIBUTES the royalties for those books sold through her ministry. The majority of her income comes from those books sold outside her ministry.
Take a look at a CURRENT article in the Christian Post.

Why are you so jealous of the good things she has in her life? She also drove around in a 20 year old car at the beginning of her ministry She has been obedient to God for over 40 years. They worked hard for the Lord for OVER 40 years.

      • Amanda March 26, 2017 at 7:57 pm #

        Uh huh . . .
Obedient to God for over 40 years? She reportedly said she is not a sinner, it was written in other articles by other writers in other websites.
The Apostle John said: ” If we say we have no sin we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
        We all sin.
I don’t want to pass judgment on her, I have prayed for her that she will repent to Jesus and talk about him and truth correctly.

I cannot believe the so called “Christians” here, do you presume to know what God thinks of JM? I’m sure he is very proud of the things you are saying about one of his children. Remember Matt 7 -1 Do not judge, or you will be judged. 2 For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.…You have a right to your opinion but you do not have a right to be going back 25+ years to find something wrong. You have no idea if she has made her peace and repented with the lord for her heretic teachings. Who are you to question God’s blessings? Her income mainly comes from her books, is that a sin? Is she not allowed to work for compensation? Is it her fault if her books are popular? Is David Jerimiah a heretic too, since he made 21.5 million in 2008? I have researched all of the Preachers who are usually considered good men of God, and I have yet to find one (1) who has not been marked as a heretic!

    • Amanda March 26, 2017 at 8:00 pm #

I don’t want to pass judgement on her. However she has said untruths about Jesus and the truth, and I’m talking about after she started talking about Jesus to her followers.

If you are going to accuse someone of false teaching and false, you need to include some Biblical back up to make your point. Where is the scripture to refute her idea of what happened in those 3 days? The article did not provide that.

I am not saying this as a Joyce Meyer supporter, either. I am neutral here, although I have my own personal reservations about mega-churches and mega-ministries.

We need to be very, very careful when we make public accusations against ministries. Believers attacking other believers is very unbecoming of the Church. When will we stop attacking each other in His Name? Look around – the world is hurting and there is suffering taking place all over. Where is the love and compassion of Jesus? We need to be His hands and feet.

Sitting around attacking each other with doctrine and theology accomplishes what, exactly? The Western church has so much backwards it is a tragedy.

    Matthew 22:36-40:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

We are each individually responsible for how we ourselves handle the Word of God. We are not to depend on a ministry or church teachings, but we need to be active readers of the Word so we can test the spirits through prayer and study. Apart from that, we are to LOVE – love the Lord, love our neighbors, and do what we would have done to us.

That is doctrine all summarized for you, straight from the mouth of Jesus Christ Himself. Because if we are in love with Him, we will do what needs to be done to live for Him.

We cannot beat that into anyone, no matter how hard we try to strike them with the Bible and all of our doctrinal policies.

Joyce mayer changed my life just by watching her popular tv show everyday. I had no access to her books or anything else just her talks on the tv. I don’t see anything wrong with her doctrine.i guess you’re just looking for something negative to write about her.

    • Amanda March 26, 2017 at 8:09 pm #

Jesus should change your life. Not Joyce Meyer. If God and Jesus use a preacher to teach you, then it’s God and Jesus that changed your life, not the preacher. And Joyce Meyer has said untruths and said things that are not found in the Bible. If she repented for those things and says the truth now, then I would understand listening to her.
It wasn’t written Jesus was punished in hell, Joyce Meyer reportedly said she is not a sinner when the Apostle John said ” If you say you have no sin, then you are deceiving yourself, and the truth is not in you.”. If she repented to Jesus for saying she is not a sinner, and now doesn’t say she’s not a sinner and if she repented for the other unbiblical things she said then I would understand listening to her if she talks about Jesus and the bible correctly.

You are 100% correct, and the Bible, God’s words, warns us of false teachers. We talked of this last Sunday at my church. Coincidently, her name came up because she was advertising a huge “how to money-making conference” using your God give talents.

    • Robert E. Krotzer February 28, 2021 at 12:44 am #

Joyce Myer is correct; Jesus did take our place in hell. You can find my story on my timeline in Facebook called The Greatest Story Never Told were I point out how clearly that is the Gospel in the King James Bible. Other, so called, bibles change key words so Satan has succeeded in causing even most preachers to deny that Jesus suffered in hell. We are dipped in water to understand that God dipped Jesus in hell. The Lord showed me that God brought him out of hell after half the 3 days time (36 hrs.) that Jesus expected. Many have searched for this answer.

All these people putting Joyce Meyer down have either never read any of her books or watched her television shows, if they had they would know she is All about God, She changes lives every day. And you should be ashamed of yourself for putting down such a wonderful person, Her whole family walks with the Lord, Stop putting her down and read one of her books and see how your life changes for the better. I am proud to say that Joyce Meyer is my Favorite Author, she has changed my life and many others.I am a Child of God.I read the holly Bible. It also says in PLAIN sight ,Luke 6;37 Do not Judge, and you will not be Judged, Matthew 7;1 Do not Judge or you will be Judged. this is so funny because i just today watched one of her shows and she was saying how she is upset because everyone is all judging each other, I say we are all children of God and it is not up to you to say who is right or wrong and it is not Godly to put down one of Gods Children the way you are, It is Gods Job…..

      Teri,

Pleass read your bible again, you’re judging with emotion, not with scriptural clarity, back up your argument with scripture please. Your “don’t judge” premise is wrong, there are plenty of white papers you can read.

Don’t follow a man or woman over God and Jesus. If what they say doesn’t match what Jesus Christ said, what God said, the prophets said, the disciples said then there is a problem. I prayed for her and I don’t want to judge her but trust her right now, no.
She sold a bible with a huge picture of her face on it with huge letters of her name. I didn’t see God or Jesus mentioned on the cover of the bible she sold. That bothers me. The cover of a bible shouldn’t have someone’s face on it, I like it when a cover of a bible says Holy Bible and I’d like it even more if a Bible said God’s word on the cover. Putting a gigantic picture of yourself on a Bible is taking away from God, I think.

Who is this Sankey person? Never heard off her, but judging others will not get you to heaven. You deceive yourself and all those who believe the junk coming out of your mouth. Anyone who has ever heard Joyce Meyer speak, knows instantly that the above audio clip is not Joyce Meyer talking. It isn’t even Joyce Meyer’s voice. And maybe that’s the best clue it’s a lie. It’s an audio and NOT a video.

  13. Manny1962 April 3, 2017 at 2:12 pm #

“Sankey person?” Isn’t that a little dismissive from someone who has a problem with “judging others?” Joyce Meyer has repeatedly twisted scripture over and over again, if you do a search it’s all there. “Junk coming out of your mouth,” again for someone who has an issue with judging others, that’s a little dismissive wouldnt you say? Being an apologist for a known wolf makes one question your motive. You’re missing the point its not Meyers personally, it’s her mishandling of scripture and her self appointed unbiblical position as teacher.

  16. Manny1962 April 6, 2017 at 11:03 am #

“She has a great understanding of both spiritual and natural minds.”

    She sure does

Joyce Meyer: ” “I am not poor. I am not miserable and I am not a sinner.”

1 John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” Notice that John the apostle says “we.” He includes himself with sinners.”

    I guess she’s exempt.

Where did Christ go when He died?
His spirit returned to God the Father. Luke 23:46. Jesus flesh did not decay in the grave, because God resurrected Him.
I have too have listened to Joyce Myers for years and find her and her menistry holy factual and above board inspiring. I very much take offense to the hypocrisy and slander to an annoited, yes she is an annoited servant of God. Pull the plank from your own eye first! Amen

Women are not to teach/preach within the church – see 1 Timothy 2:12. Not to mention Meyers is a false teacher on top of all that. Those who follow her are deceived; there’s a stern warning in Matthew 24:4 about deception.

The blind will lead the blind and both will fall into the pit.

  19. lyn May 7, 2017 at 11:08 am #

Here is a sample of Meyer’s false teachings “I’m going to tell you something folks, I didn’t stop sinning until I finally got it through my thick head I wasn’t a sinner anymore. And the religious world thinks that’s heresy and they want to hang you for it. But the Bible says that I’m righteous and I can’t be righteous and be a sinner at the same time … All I was ever taught to say was, ‘I’m a poor, miserable sinner.’ I am not poor, I am not miserable and I am not a sinner. That is a lie from the pit of hell. That is what I was and if I still am then Jesus died in vain. Amen?”

This teaching is from the pit of hell! This woman is a heretic, a word of faith heretic. She lives in a mansion outside St. Louis, why is it so many fleece their flocks and live like kings/queens? This is the purpose of their ministry, to fleece and live in comfort in this life. We are commanded to NOT love the world, that would include the pleasures, extravagant temporal comforts. This world is NOT the home of the true born again believer, we are pilgrims passing through on a journey to a better country. Yet, heretics like Meyers are nestled in here as though they will be here forever.

Run from her false teachings and cry out to God for true wisdom and understanding.

    • BLS May 8, 2017 at 11:23 am #

Read your bible, many righteous men had tons of wealth. She earns her money through her books, not her ministry donations. What I hear her say most often is tha God loves you. The world needs to hear that!

      • lyn May 8, 2017 at 11:33 am #

Perhaps you need to follow your own advice. Meyers has gone against the commands of God’s word, as I have already pointed out. Her ‘wealth’ is through ill-gotten gain, books penned that push unbiblical truth. Her stating ‘God loves you’ isn’t accurate either, ‘Jacob I loved, Esau I hated’. How does she know who God loves?!

        From my previous post,
“Joyce was ordained over 25 years ago. She has a worldwide congregation through the Enjoying Everyday Life television and radio programs. Joyce speaks regularly at public conferences in the United States and around the world. She also preaches occasionally at the St. Louis Dream Center church, an inner-city outreach of Joyce Meyer Ministries.”

What are the qualifications for elders within Christ’s church?
1Ti 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
        1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
        1Ti 3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
        1Ti 3:4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
1Ti 3:5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1Ti 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1Ti 3:7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Meyers is in serious violation of the holy word of God. Pastor/elder/bishop is an office for men only – no exceptions.

Women are not to teach/preach within the church – see 1 Timothy 2:12. Not to mention Meyers is a false teacher on top of all that. Those who follow her are deceived; there’s a stern warning in Matthew 24:4 about deception.

      • lyn May 8, 2017 at 11:35 am #

As for the wealth of men of the bible, did they use it on ‘self’ or did they use it for the glory of God? Did they build mansions for ‘self’ or did they, like Abraham, use their wealth to take care of others? It’s always advisable to study things through rather than make loose claims.

      “to an annoited”………who anointed her?

“yes she is an annoited servant of God” ………. Again, says who?

This anointing, in biblical times was laying of hands to pass on the mantle of leadership, as Moses did to Joshua under DIRECT orders from God.

Numbers 27:18 “18So the LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him; 19and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and commission him in their sight.”

Joyce Meyer did not receive any biblical anointing, this false anointing is part of the WOF movement and the NAR, who fancy themselves apostles and prophets, they’re not….. they’re only deceived and deceiving.

Reference this: Matthew 24:24 “24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible. 25See, I have told you in advance.…”

If you can follow a woman “preacher” (which the Bible doesn’t permit) who believes and has taught that “we are little gods” and defend her as preaching the gospel of Christ, then that doesn’t represent your clear understanding of scripture. That statement alone should be totally offend any discerning Christian enough to abandon listening to her. If Joyce Meyer were focusing on the true gospel message, she wouldn’t be popular and drawing large crowds. Remember that the crowds left Jesus because of His “hard sayings.” Joyce Meyer has no hard sayings from scripture. If you desire truth, her messages will not satisfy your soul. She teaches the power of your words and prosperity and tells life stories and gives practical advice and tells (even sex) jokes. She does not exegete scripture as a wise teacher would, but rather distorts it to conform to her message. The comments here are meant to warn those who are being deceived. No one here is “jealous” of Joyce Meyer, I assure you, for none of us who have understanding would want to have to explain such false teachings to Christ on Judgment Day.

Do you even compare what this heretic teaches to what the Bible actually says?

From Meyer, ” “He could have helped himself up until the point where he said I commend my spirit into your hands, at that point he couldn’t do nothing for himself anymore. He had become sin, he was no longer the Son of God. He was sin.” “The minute that blood sacrifice was accepted Jesus was the first human being that was ever born again,” “His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserve to go… There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth.”

As Sheryl stated, women are not to preach, for the bible forbids it.
1Ti 2:12  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
1Ti 2:13  For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1Ti 2:14  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that you Joyce judges don’t believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues either and you don’t believe in current Day prophecy and you don’t believe in healings or seeing blinded eyes opened or that the dead will be brought back to life.. I watched Joyce Meyer for 2 years and recorded her programmes on videos and passed them around members of my church as they did not have Christian TV because I could relate to nearly everything she said and liked her. Her experiences were my experiences. I think that’s why so many women like her but I got what I called “Joyce Meyer indigestion” so I stopped watching her. Later I would occasionally watch her but I noticed there was a spirit of idolatry moving in her meetings – which, at first, she did not encourage but later did encourage. When she told of her times of poverty when her children were young I could relate to them and felt I was “one with her” but when I saw how rich she had become and had her own jet, and lived in luxury, my thoughts were, “If she had earned them all through working hard before she became a Christian – fair enough but she didn’t – she gained them through selling her books etc. (whether through her ministry or not) – but God alone will be her judge, not me. When I first started watching her many years ago, I wrote away for something, I can’t remember what it was but I immediately received a request for money to support her ministry and that put me right off, so have never contacted her office again. I’ve noticed a lot of the Mega church teachers are living in luxury, having their own jets etc. but one TV teacher (who God provides with millions of dollars for the bible schools he builds and runs) still lives in his 3 bedroom house – he could well have used some of the money God provided via Christian givers to buy a house worth millions of dollars but he hasn’t – nor does he have his own jet – so I highly respect him and would highly respect the others had they learned to be content (like Paul) with a house, car etc. not of millionaire status (and no jets). Some of the followers of these teachers who buy their books etc. are quite poor so it doesn’t seem right that their money should contribute to these teachers’ luxurious living. Jesus did say that we would always have the poor (Matt. 26:11) but to the monetary rich church he said, “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so that you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so that you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so that you can see.” (Rev. 3:18). When I think of Jesus’ answer to a teacher of the law who said that he would follow Him wherever he would go, which was, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head” I appreciate what I have. If Joyce has retracted her heretic statements, God bless her and lets face it none of us are perfect – we’re all “works in progress” and one day we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that each one may receive what is due to him for the things done whilst in the body, whether good or bad (2 Cors. 5:10).

      Good morning Doreen,

      Three things I noticed:

      1. Feelings (not truth, nor scripture)

      2. Wealth. ( They all worship Mammon)

      3. No mention of the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ ( just follow your feelings)

This is why we must filter the world through the word of God. Joyce Meyer was an apostate before you got involved with her teachings and still is, she’s a proud member of that wicked corporation called Churchianity, Inc.

All three bullet points above are trademark of a WoF (Word of Faith) heretic, you might recognize some of her associates such as Benny Hinn and Creflo Dollar (ironic last name) TBN was their tv pit, from there they spread their swill all over the globe. Crying for money for another mansion or jet, it is demonic and all of these people are headed straight to hell.

    Hi Manny,

    I’m assuming Manny is a man’s name – am I correct?

It’s interesting that you should mention Creflo Dollar. He came to Edinburgh, Scotland last year (where I live) and a Christian sister (who used to come to see me quite often) invited me to the church where he was going to speak but I turned down her invitation telling her how I felt about him living a life of luxury (having his private jet) etc from the money that Christians had donated and that I was not going to support him financially or hear what he had to say…..and I haven’t seen her since (she supports him and Kenneth and Gloria Copeland)…..so I thought I must have offended her. I thought, “Surely we as Christians can agree to disagree about something and still have fellowship one with another”.

Jesus wants unity among the brethren – Satan wants division.

You also mention Benny Hinn – he was the other person I used to watch and record for other Christians to watch alongside Joyce Meyer and I got what I called “Benny Hinn indigestion” at the same time as I got “Joyce Meyer indigestion” and stopped watching both of them and haven’t watched him since so I’m attributing this to the Holy Spirit guiding me although I did go to his meeting in the Manchester Evening News Stadium many years ago which held 29,500 Christians from all over the UK and Europe and some from further afield – and was genuinely healed of cystitis, which I had suffered from for many years and haven’t had it since, but after reading the negative things some Christians wrote about him, thought, “If they are correct, I attribute my healing to the worship of the genuine Christians who were there because the presence of God was there in that place so much so that I couldn’t stop weeping – my friend also.

I agree with you Manny that we must know what God says in His word so as not to be deceived.

However, there’s still time for all of us to repent (including all those who worship money). Over the years the Lord has shown me a number of sins which I wasn’t aware of (of which I duly repented) but because of this I keep short accounts with Him as I don’t want to displease Him. My desire is to be Holy as He is Holy.

      Hello Doreen,

To answer your question, yes it is.

These movements (NAR, WoF, Seeker, Emergent) are satanic at their core. They all are man centered and aside from all the “christianese” spoken by them, they worship Satan in their blindness. They will eventually end as part of the one world religion who in turn will worship the antichrist and the false prophet.

Why do some Christians have to be so judgemental and critical with one another. Great witness for the world to see? Just because you don’t like the style of teaching and it’s the Word. Leave them alone and just pray

    • Darrel September 17, 2017 at 7:46 am #

      PJ,

You have judged JM to be a “Christian” just because she claims to be one, yet every word that falls from her mouth betrays that “confession” without exception. Perhaps you are quick to repeat “Judge not, lest you be judged” not knowing that you have (wrongly) judged JM to be a “Christian”, even “anointed by God”, when you should heed the words of Jesus found in John 7:24; “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” Is anyone to be considered a “brother/sister in Christ” whose life long work is to mock Him and blaspheme His name at every opportunity? This is what JM does now and has done for decades. She claims that Jesus ceased being the Son of God when He became sin for us, but Scripture teaches the opposite: 2 Cor. 5:21 “For He [the Father] made Him [the Son of God, Jesus Christ] who knew no sin to be sin for us…” She continues her heresy by stating that ‘Jesus was the first man to be born again’ despite the fact that He never needed to be “born again” since He was and is and always will be the Son of God who has life in Himself. May it please the Lord to open your blind eyes.

If you like someone’s preaching listen to them, if you don’t like their preaching then don’t listen to them, it’s that simple.

    • Manny1962 September 13, 2017 at 7:50 am #

      Good morning Terri,

Even if what they teach is a false gospel? Enough truth with a little yeast, enough to sound “good,” but in reality antichristian? You do understand there’s a reason why Paul exhorted the Bereans, he lauded them for checking the teaching against scripture. Many are fooled by the Rick Warrens of the world, they’re very good at naming Jesus Christ but in their preaching they deny Him.

Amen !! Well said Terri I agree.

Besides we all have our own interpretations of what we read from the bible

Who gives you the right to judge her?

  30. Peggy Gray January 9, 2020 at 10:31 am #

God me the right to tell the truth. When I was 16, my brother Garry and Joyce went to a bank in the Houston area and borrowed money using my name to obtain that money. That was around 1968. They borrowed money from the bank and back then the bankers didn’t check ids. I found out when the bank called me to ask why I had not made a payment. I lived in Corpus Christi, Texas. I had to send them proof that it was not me who borrowed money. Garry told me it was them after he threw her out. They lived in Corpus Christi when they separated. I felt sorry for her (because I did not know at that time, that she pretended to be me). I rented an apartment so she would have a place to sleep. I moved in with her and she became pregnant by another man. One day, I came home and she had moved out of our apartment and had stolen everything in it (dishes, towels, etc.) . The only time I ever heard from her again was years later when she decided to become religious. She spoke with my mother who knew not to give her my phone number or address. I didn’t want to lie or hear lies from her.

So many of the comments ignore the fact her entire ministry is in opposition to the scriptures. It was forbidden in ALL the churches fo a woman to exercise authority over a man and that is what she does, God did NOT call her to do what she is doing, so it is NO SURPRISE of all the deviations and absurd statements she has made over the years. I remember her trashing the teaching of the Apostle Paul over twenty years ago when my mother-in-law was living with us and watching her. Of course, Paul got under her skin, because he faithfully wrote what the Holy Spirit wanted him to! In perusing some of the comments above, I note that if a person ignores a core commandment for ministry and excuses the person, that person has almost NO DISCERNMENT about what that person says. This is not only for JM, but so many others, male and female. No divorce, no adultery, no love of money, and having a good reputation in the world are all requirements for a Christian minister BESIDES being a man. TBN, Daystar, Word, Impact, you name is have numerous people on who are disqualified on one or more of those basic qualifications, let alone being able to faithfully exegete the Holy Scriptures.

How do you reconcile women prophets in the OT?

  33. Sheila October 28, 2020 at 12:55 pm #

Joyce Meyers “bewitched” me for many years because of my lack of understanding in Gods Word AND whatever demonic agenda was being employed. I allowed her to “tickle my ears” with her Word of Faith, Prosperity Gospel, until I actually woke up to the truth. Plain and simple, she is a false teacher. I have no judgement against her personally, but she needs to pray to have God unshackle her eyes so she can repent.
People need to be reading their bibles, studying them line-by- line and seeking God for understanding. When we do this, when we are hungry and thirsty for God’s Word, He gives us His teaching. That far surpasses anything Mrs. Meyers would ever have.
Choose this day who you will serve!

It’s people like you sir that make Christians look bad. It’s not good enough for you to believe someone loves God and is trying to make a difference. You are a person that looks for things she’s doing wrong. Do you do this to everyone or just women preachers. You better stop judging. My Bible says test the spirit by if a person says he believes in Jesus and walks in the light you will know his spirit.. seems you may be misinterpreting scripture..please stop bad mouthing other Christians the workd is bad enough at doing that. Only Satan would have u try to ruin something good.

She looks just like him too!

  40. Betsy October 14, 2023 at 8:08 pm #

Open your eyes to the truth. you have taken everything out of context. Perhaps you are the devil trying to discredit a messenger of God. I don’t like to judge others, but when the Holy Spirit stirs within me, as I read your commentary, I am convinced that Joyce Meyer is teaching with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The recordings was a dramatic representation of what the devil was doing at the passion of Christ and up to the hour of death. Jesus took on our sin and hung on that cross to show us how it is done and how he suffered in our place without even complaining. Have you heard the song by Carman about Jesus being in the boxing ring with the devil and the devil thought he threw a knockout punch that would would put Jesus down as he delivered the final blow… you should listen to it.
