Does God put a dream destiny in your heart? Did He make you for a God-sized dream?
The words, “dream destiny,” or, “God’s dream” are popping up in a significant number of sermons and books by celebrity pastors. It’s as if they’re all preaching from the same strange hymnal. Once you recognize the symptoms and the widespread infection, you can’t unsee the dream shift happening in modern churches. Pretty significant, right? But consider this truth: Nowhere in Scripture do we find mention that God will supernaturally give you a dream, or any command from Christ that we are to follow the destiny He gave us (other than to repent and follow Him of course).
Why then this uptick in dream destinies? Who are the change agents moving this strange doctrine forward, and where did they get this idea?
The Truth
The short answer is that this is a different Gospel, manufactured by the enemy and leveraged by his agents. That’s right, those who push dream destinies are being used as agents of the enemy of your soul. The Bible tells us their fate, unless they repent:
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:8 ESV)
For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. (2 Corinthians 11:4 NASB)
The Infection Spreaders
The common factor in the host/carriers is that almost all of them are part of an Apostolic renewal movement, a mixture of NAR/Dominionism with Latter Rain and Seeker/Emergent leaders.
The sickness of this infectious false doctrine is propelled by human-to-human contact in the name of UNITY, and has gone airborne. Even worse: It’s gone viral.
Whether humans gather en masse at stadiums or church sanctuaries, or they simply tune in and stream, this infection is spreading at an alarming rate. Conferences hosted by the new Apostles are hotbeds of danger. I’ve posted links at the bottom of this article so you can research this disease.
Its victims seldom know that they are infected. Instead they welcome it like poison, and cheer when they are overcome.
Get inoculated
As with any dangerous illness, prevention is better than recovery. But the good news is that both are possible. Be in Scripture. Take your eyes off yourself and your dream, and remember that Jesus called us to die to ourselves, pick up our crosses (instruments of persecution and suffering), and follow Him. Through His breathed-out Word.
Is there a cure for this dream destiny? Yes. Only when your eyes are opened will you be able to know if you’ve caught it.
If you’ve been infected:
- Repent
- Right any wrongs. Confess if you’ve taught this, and make it right.
- Die to yourself: Pick up your cross, and follow Him.
- Wear protection: Put on Christ daily and stay in His Word.
I get it. Some of these books probably have bad theology, etc. but how do we know they are preaching a “different gospel”? The gospel is the good news that leads to salvation …are you saying that all these authors have replaced Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection with a book on dreams? I personally know one of the authors well…I attend his church and I’ve heard him deliver the true and accurate gospel many times before. I guess I just don’t know how to discern bad theology from a different gospel…they seem like separate things…am I wrong? I.e. my eschatology may not be 100% right but I know the gospel of Christ…or we may differ in our understanding of the excersizing of spiritual gifts but we can believe the same gospel. I’m really trying to have good discernment here and be a good Berean, but are we splitting hairs here? I’m newer to the site…don’t scorch me if you respond 🙂 just trying to learn here.
if it aint calvinism, it aint the gospel. if your pastor cannot agree with what is in the Heidelberg catechism, belgic confession, the canons of dort, or the westminster standards, then he is not preaching the gospel of faith in christ alone as the way of salvation.
hint: if your pastor authored a book featured in the video above he is likely not going to agree with any of those confessions and ergo is not preaching the true gospel.

These people almost NEVER preach about sin…and how Jesus Christ redeemed us from sin by his blood, and how we must study the life of the apostles in order to know how to honor the life, death and resurrection of Jesus with our hearts. All the NAR types swear that their church preaches the gospel….but really, it’s all about the best and happiest you. It;s all about taking hold of the 7 mountains so that you can lead the next generation!! Ummm no. God chose the weak and foolish things of this world…so that no one might boast before him. How often do you hear your pastor give the Gospel vs. preaching about Dream desitny? If you look back and the messages he has given which way does the weight scale go between the 2 topics? Often the dream destiny message becomes about you and what God supposedly wants for you and it uses people from the bible to say that they had a dream destiny and so should you. In reality it was God who gave these people these ‘dreams’ and ‘visions’. They didn’t go looking for these things but today these types of preachers exhort you to look for it and God will eventually become your dream destiny slot machine. It flirts so much with the narcissistic tendency in all of us to think that God is at our bidding if we have a dream. He is supposed to fulfill that ream and so it becomes about us and not about God. This is my understanding of it and I hope you get what I am saying?

Any pastor espousing 10 tests to have God fulfill anything in your life, is wrong, that’s heretical, the only conditions there exists for a human is are you saved or not. God did the saving through His precious Son, we have been given a gift, not a condition to be tested, earned or manifested. Salvation through grace, not by works lest any man boast. And don’t get caught up in the Calvinism vs Arminianism, go to the simplicity of the gospels, you seek knowledge? Ask the Holy Spirit, Jesus said He was sent as our helper, you can ask Him anything in prayer and He will lead you. Neither Calvin nor Arminius where the end all to scripture! It befuddles me why we look to two men for the veracity of the the gospels, when Jesus Himself was patently clear, the Holy Spriti will lead us in ALL TRUTHS!

In no way, am I demeaning any brother or sister in Christ for holding a Calvinist or Arminian view, I’m not here to speak for anyone, just for me. I trust the leading of the Holy Spirit in prayer, I take my understanding straight from scripture, even the so called hard to understand passages will be illuminated in prayer and thanksgiving to the Lord. I personally do not get into those arguements. But let’s be sincere, man is flawed, to make one an idol for getting scripture “right” is counterproductive and erroneous. Can Calvin or Arminius teach us more? Or better than the Holy Spirit?
I follow no man, I follow Jesus Christ of Bethlehem, Calvin or Arminius mean nothing to me, they were not commissioned by The Lord, they’re both flawed men with no God given vision or mission any different than you or me. Our manual for living has been given to us by God, why do we need other men to explain the bible to us? Did any of these men posses special powers to decipher the bible? Did God write the bible so we would need “luminaries” to understand it and give us lesser beings hidden knowledge? Sounds like Gnosticism to me! Teaching is one thing, but putting down doctrine as one way or the other, then following the men that say so is erroneous! The Holy Spirit was sent for a reason, to help us, He can and will open your eyes with prayer, with scripture reading and by not quenching His fire! Calvinism and Arminianism does one thing it points to the movement’s authors as inspired and puts them on the pedestal, by some, as apostles! They’re flawed men, like you, like me. Is there a place for teachers? Of course, some have the gift of teaching, but teaching from scripture is different than what these movements have spawned, they divide. I don’t adhere to either. I’m a bible believing Christian man who has been saved by the grace of God, through the redemptive work on the cross by His one and only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, I did not earn it, I could never repay it, it was a gift beyond explanation, for I am not worthy of Jesus. Once again, I mean no ill will toward anyone that follows either men. I choose to follow Christ and Christ alone.
