“Is Aglow affiliated with the New Apostolic Reformation?”

A reader from Australia writes:

Dear Berean Research,

Having come from Charismatic circles, I was involved for many years with the Aglow movement. It was started in the USA back in 1967. While the ladies themselves were a huge help to me, the slippery slope to the ministry being involved with people who I now recognize as being in the N.A.R., has caused me me to back off.

Recently I saw a photo of the International President of Aglow, Jane Hansen Hoyt, with Rick Joyner. Other “ministers” that have “prophetically” spoken at Aglow events are Graham Cooke, Chuck Pierce and many others. There has even been a man who has a “ministry” with flags and banners declaring ground for Jesus. Not only that he has only half a beard because God told him not to shave it all. I’ve seen it for myself!!

LOTS of declaring and decreeing. And, and this really irks me – the romanticizing type of words that are used to and about God in the Aglow meetings.

I was wondering if you have ever come across the Aglow organization and would you consider writing an article about it?

Yes, I think we do need to do that. Aglow International is full-on New Apostolic Reformation, with president Jane Hansen Hoyt being a member of C. Peter Wagner’s “International Coalition of Apostles.” Its international advisors include prominent “apostles” and “prophets” like Che Ahn, Rick Joyner, Cindy Jacobs and the late Wagner.

AGLOW  has more than 200,000 members meeting together each month through local Aglow groups in 171 nations. More than 21,000 Aglow leaders worldwide minister in their communities. Within the United States, local Aglow groups are called Lighthouses. Outside the US, these groups are called Candlelight groups.

Here is Aglow president Hoyt being interviewed on MorningStar Ministries’ Prophetic Perspectives show by her dear friend and Apostle Rick Joyner. As he sits on her advisory council, notice also that she sits on his MorningStar board as well:

Here is Hoyt sharing a prophecy about a mandate from God, who downloaded this into the head of Lou Engle:

You can find the typical Kingdom Now/Dominionist verbiage used on Aglow’s website:

Aglow International is a Transformational Kingdom Culture with mindsets not of this world. As a Kingdom Movement, we are committed to seeing God’s will done on earth as it is in Heaven by raising up champions and warriors across the earth…

Aglow is one of the networks that God has built and established in the earth to accomplish His purposes in the end times. The real strength of this network is its breadth — displaying His power, dominion, and authority in 170 nations. We know how to stand against the shifting, changing times, speak into the atmosphere and align earth with Heaven’s purposes. That is the power of who we are.  (SOURCE)

  1. Just observing the ego trips these NAR characters are on should tell people something! All one needs to do is read Isaiah Chapter 14 about the ambitions and the fall of Lucifer to see the same pattern of wanting to usurp God’s authority and influence on human beings.

  2. Oh my I also totally disagree w NAR. Jane Hansen Hoyt has no apostolic authority to the nations and they on her staff the Islamic diane moder has no mantle. They pat each other on the back pick some prophets apostles out there and call them selves leaders to the nations. It’s a joke . I’m an prophtess apostie that’s not how God tried me to battle war against the enemy. Michael Brown disagrees and I know his meetings were genuine. Peter wagoner is gone and these voices so called mountain moving authority. Aglow is A DEAD WORK.

  3. Grahmn cook is not choosen only called along w Dutch sheets diane moder Jane and Tony hoyt are in some cases demonic and totally not True prophets /apostles no telling how much a year do they pay due fees to b on this club of theirs. This is not bible. Pray for their exposure deliverance …. And aglow is a “charming spirit” it’s about WAR not foo foo

  4. I also was involved w aglow. BUT as a true prophet I gave correction to Jane and the leadership and. They say I’m un known world wide. And they were on all the board of directors and I basically had no room to help bring them correction done in love and w authority as led of the Holy Spirit. Guess I’m not on NAR and my voice doesn’t count also be aware of that elijah list they ALL got going on.

    1. You are way messed up lady. Go to ephesians 4v11. Yes there are apostles prophets. TODAY. Get the word I scarry

      1. U scarry Amy don’t even try to say the minstructions gifts of the apostle prophets are not for today. Lol

      2. “It has recently become popular to speak of “the five-fold ministry,” a system of church government with apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. The neo-Pentecostal “Restoration” movement and its offshoot, “Kingdom now” teaching, claims that one of the things which God is “restoring” to the church is this five-fold ministry.

The sole proof text used to support this concept is Ephesians 4:11-13, which states that Christ gave “some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,….until we all attain to the unity of the faith and the full knowledge of the Son of God.” The word “until,” it is argued, proves that the church today needs apostles and prophets as much as evangelists, pastors, and teachers.

However, it is the “building up” of the church (v.12) which must continue until the church is mature, not all five of the offices listed in verse 11. This is clear when the whole text is read as follows: “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers; [these offices were given] to equip the saints for the work of service, [which work has as its goal] to build up the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith….” The offices of apostle and prophet would naturally cease in the church once their role in “equipping the saints” was completed; that is, once the New Testament canon was completed.

Some have objected that there is no reason to bracket off the apostles and prophets from the other three offices listed in verse 11. However, in the very same epistle, Paul states that the church has “been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets” (Eph. 2:20) and that Christ’s mystery concerning the church was “revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit” (3:5). These statements indicate that the role of apostles and prophets was fulfilled in the first century.

The New Testament is particularly clear about the temporary role of the apostles, since they were chosen to give eyewitness testimony of the risen Christ (Acts 1:21-26; 5:32; Luke 1:104; 1 Cor. 9:1). Paul indicated that he was the last person to see the risen Christ and receive an apostolic commission (1 Cor. 15:8). The epistles of 2 Peter and Jude, among the very last New Testament writings to be penned, exhort the readers to avoid false doctrines by recalling the teachings of the apostles (2 Pet.1:12-15; 2:1; 3:2, 14-16; Jude 3-4, 17). Peter and Jude did not say, “Listen to the apostles living today,” but instead urged believers to “remember what the apostles said.”

        1. I know that all 5 fold gifts are still in operation today and tomorrow and we all need maturing. They the 5 fold ate to Co operate together to mature the saints. Today tomorrow and nothing has ceased nor stopped in the portion of scripture eph 4 -11-13. And God Himself appoints these minstry gifts. I being a evangelist prophtess apostle will continue to manifest the gifts in which which also go w the ministry. Miracles signs wonders administration healings. Plus God has made me wealthy to travel the world to do so. Preach the word souls won and will continue until He returns or I fie. Get real!!!!!

        2. You obviously are not apostle prophwt pastor evangelist or teacher. Sorry you yall so misconscrue on this simple teaching. I know who iam in Jesus and how the gifts God gave me function. Pray for understanding so you can be free on this topic. I’m not debating w anyone. Selah

        3. Manny, it doesn’t matter how much Scripture you provide. Some people are just bent on believing what they want to believe. It is the essence of unbelief. To you and me, it’s black and white, it’s so simple. To others, well…it’s like they’re reading a different book.

    1. Some people are ignorant un learned and grossly inmature. So evident without knowledge my people parish. God bless you anyway. Simpletons

    2. You are reading a different book. Not the Holy Bible I’ve been trained raised up and believe in. I know in my heart the written word. Don’t know how taught you this type teaching but They will b accounted for conterfeit teachings. I guess demons of doctrines. Please reconsider who you ate learn g from. Because whoever that may b is all out of order and line w the canon. Mercyto you who believe your doctrine

    3. I find it strange you are even on this subject no prophets today. This page is about NAR. Go give your opinions to the prophets apostles on NAR. Why you started in on me I d k I was responding to these characters on NAR and their issues. All of us are apostles and prophets to begin with. Quit hanging yourselves by something you don’t understand or believe. Really????

      1. So I was responding to the apostles prophets on NAR. Correcting and I don’t agree w NAR. And I’m apostle prophtess. You need to mind your own business and don’t intwrfere w my response to something I have no clue about. Wow . Make your own website and go off on your idea of apostle prophetic. Stay off this one .:)

      1. I’m set free already, it’s called salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, an undeserved gift, unpayable, unmerited, a gift of life through the Son of the Everlasting God of Israel.

You are in for a rude awakening, what you seek to follow and defend is an ungodly movement, come out of her as it’s part and parcel of Mystery Babylon.

        1. This is not a movement it’s new testament order of eph 4-13. Set in the book. For everyone’s understanding. You ate not free in this subject but you are saved. Forget you I’m done.

          1. It is a movement, you just don’t want to see it, or you can’t. The five fold heresy, if you would care to research it, is an off shoot of Kingdom Now heresy, it purports to conquer the world and set up God’s kingdom on Earth, that’s why they push the lie that prophets are needed today, that’s why they argue the canon isn’t closed. In order to set their “kingdom,” they want to do what the true church did all over again, while they appoint themselves positions originally granted to the founders of the true church. If you can’t see how false this is then you’re blind and deaf.

    1. As being of the family of Jane, I can TELL ya, she really does believe she is something. Most in the family wonder about her. In her heart of hearts, she feels that she is carrying on the ministry of her beloved father. Who was so far ADVANCED for his time, he just didn’t finish his purpose. So Jane, bless her heart, has always tried to fulfill his legacy. But it wasn’t hers to fulfill.
Nothing against Jane, but some of her ideas. beliefs, theology are WAY OUT THERE in la la land. But she will be QUICK to say to not doubt her “anointing”. Well, I dared to and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is the promoter, not some well “intended” group of women who basically APPOINTED themselves. Big thing about Ms Jane is she always talks about her heart, but LOOK at the behavior, the actions, the path. If the heart and the actions do not align, then there is an issue. So many involved in the apostolic movement are there for accolades, sigh.

  5. It’s a bless me club. We got work to do demonic principality and strongholds and we in a war. Make roomfor the real genuine true apostles /prophets God is raising up. Ones who know their God intimately and who do Great exploits and who behold His Glory.

  6. The 5 fold ministry gifts eph 4.are still operating today. Apostle and prophetess. And these gifts will function until He returns. Amy. Oh my .

    1. What is this ranting even being allowed? Why is this person allowed to make all these rambling style comments?

      1. Good morning Lyn, how are you today?

It is my sincerest hope this lady wakes up. She doesn’t realize that the five fold heresy is an offshoot of the NAR/Kingdom Now lunacy. It’s all part of the same false movement, patently false and unscriptural. Yet she still rambles on about being a prophetess, she says she doesn’t agree with the NAR, but she believes what they believe, I don’t get it.

        1. Good morning Manny

Yes, she isn’t even aware of her foolishness. Those who claim to be a prophetess also think they have some kind of mystical power to enforce over those who expose their silliness. Only God can remove her blindness.

  7. Ignorant arugmentive off the wall ladies sad so very sad I’m carrying on w my ministry as God has called me. Start your website then maybe yall can have yea overy this disscussion. Good bye flake outs I don’t have time for your non sense

    1. If I were you, I would reconsider your position. Based on your statements, I can tell you God did not call you to “ministry.” Biblically speaking, women are not ministers. All you’ve done is call people “flake out” or berated them for giving you guidance, you’re on the wide road going through the wide gate. Repent and come out of the Five Fold/Kingdom Now/NAR snare.

    2. Oh my, I admire how your words are ‘spoken in love’ – sarc on.
You are caught up in heresy, deception, and false teachings. May God open your blind eye, have mercy and save you.

Time to shake the dust off and let this one go the direction God has ordained.

    3. check yourself, YOUR ministry….wrong words for a servant hun. You have NOTHING, NADA, it is for Jesus period. This MY ministry garbage is of the pit.

    1. Ms. Watts you are treading on dangerous ground. One thing is calling people ” flake outs,” but another is attributing words to The Holy Spirit, it is lethal. I would say this to you, Satan masquerades as an angel of light, the spirit giving you “revelations,” or words is not The Holy Spirit. There is an unpardonable sin……

      Mark 3:28-29King James Version (KJV)

28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

    2. Now you claim to speak for God?!? True born again believers know better than to follow the nonsense you are spewing out. May God be gracious to you and save you from your sins and the delusion you are under.

  8. I love you anyway. So does God. I will obey God and travel and love others w the truth of the written word. Your opinions mean nothing to me. And this website was against aglow and the NAR. You butted in to my response. And waaaay put of touch w the unfounded non sense you responded to me. I can see you don’t have a clue what you are rambling. YOU AND YOUR CO HERITS CAN HOPEFULLY B RESTORED.

  9. You have a crack in you the devil has come on and twised the word of God on this issue. Restoration is highly needed on your doctrine I r misconscrue and need not bother w
Issue until you are grounded and rooted in the word of God. Because u are a mockery and no one needs your theory. Plesse get truth u are mis guided and unaware of a true prophetic voice. And you are decieved

I guess your holy ghost just doesn’t know if it’s really his last word or not. I do hope God will grant you repentance for making a mockery of His Spirit throughout this thread.

  10. Ms. Watts it’s time to shake the dust off my sandal. Your ignorance of scripture has no bounds, I’ve tried, others have tried, I leave your hard heart in God’s hands.

  11. It’s time to ask Amy to prevent this woman from further comments, she is spewing out her diatribe and resorting to her deluded ignorance in an attempt to ‘lord’ some satanic power over us. God help her.

  12. Proverbs 26:4

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Lyn, she is unteachable, unless God intervenes it’s hopeless.

    1. Agreed Manny. God sends strong delusion to those who refuse to love the truth. We are wise if we leave this alone. I do hope Amy puts an end to allowing comments from her and keep her from spreading her deluded thinking here.

  13. Pitiful. U can have the last word. Ok. U win. My holy ghost. That’s for sure. I’m a holy ghost spurted filled believer a prophtess who can speat under the utterance of the holy spirit. Who hears the voice of God. I know my jesus!!!! U know jebel opposed the prophets like you anti christ.

  14. Jeezebel no telling how maNY devils are teaching and influencIing you. I know God his spirit his word spoken/written. You ladies best give it up. Yep I’m charismatic and operate in all 9 of the gifts. And u are unfounded and have a crack and misconscrue. Now. Let it bbbbbbbb

  15. Please ask Manny lyn whoever started intetuppring my concern to NAR aglow to dust the dirt off and keep on w your bunk doctrine. Get off this website. You don’t even acknowledge apostles or prophets.

  16. The Berean research this website r laughing their ass off at our responses to one another. Esp the part where yall interested my response to aglow and NAR. Final word. Please don’t intrude on my comments to a group of people I’m familiar with. And please forgive me if I offended you in any way. Manny or lyn or who ever added their opinion’s. This no not EVEN concern you. God bless you. God will handle you…

    1. Hi Amy. I think you did the right thing, but I’m now feeling kind of sorry for jo anne, I dont think she’s American-born or perhaps english is not her first language, and she’s obviously been sorely deceived by some real bad teaching and perhaps a worse thing, spiritually speaking, or maybe has a mental struggle, but anyway, I pray for her salvation and healing in Jesus’ name.

(And I hate to admit, but I sometimes get a kick out of commentors like that, I guess thats wrong of me, I dont mean them any harm, but sometimes I get a laff, for a bit, with some of the things they say, but then I realize the person may be harming others or themself with their posts and unwillingness to listen to sound doctrine, and it’s really not so funny.)

Anyway, I appreciate this site and try to read everything that comes in. I dont know why I find myself drawn to this kind of ministry, sometimes I worry that I pay too much attention to the false teaching/nonsense (not to follow, but to be aware of) and not enough to the true…Jesus and the bible, but we’re called to contend for the faith, and be armed with the truth and love, so God bless you for doing what you do to help the Body and others be informed. Thanks. michael

  17. There is no such thing as a woman Prophetess…

A woman can be a Judge in the sense of settling a dispute or exhorting prophesying in general to body of Christ if it points to Jesus but no Woman is to ever teach a man how to treat woman except his mother when he is a child..anything else is against the word of God..A woman could operate in a gift but not be a prophetess in directing Men on Gods will..The Bible is clear that we are to renew our minds to and to listen to the Holy Spirit for Gods will..

1 Timothy 2:12 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

Revelation 2:20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow [l]that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, [m]to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.

    Titus 2:3-5

    The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

  18. I reject the NAR and New Prophetic movement, and I understand that that movement promotes the unbiblical practice of allowing women to exercise authority over men in the church (I am a woman), but to the person who posted that women are not to minister prophetically, I respectfully ask you to recall the biblical record:

Acts 21:19 says Philip had four daughters who prophesied.

In Luke 2:36–38 we see Anna the prophetess recognizing the baby Jesus as the Christ.

These are just two concrete examples of women functioning prophetically.

  19. The only time a woman was a prophetess was under her husbands authority..Still woman have no authority to rule over a man like another man or elder does..that does not mean they cannot prophecy..and prophecy is not exactly the same as being a prophet…

    the 2 exceptions don’t make a rule….

A woman could operate in a gift but not be a prophetess as far a leading the church in directing Men on Gods will…

the days of Prophets and Apostles are over….Paul Stated to appoint elders and deacons..If there were still Prophets and Apostles then he would have said it..

if anyone could possibly be one if that’s true (not saying it is) then they will humble and and not in the old testament style….

God has called men and woman to stay in their lane so to speak of how to operate and not use their strengths to topple others over..

Men are physically stronger than woman and they are not to use that Strength to assault woman..

Woman are trained from when they are young and have children to recognize what emotion is being used by a baby to know what to do for it, When their kids start to grow that pattern recognition also tells them when their kids are going thru something

they then know automatically what is going on thru the recognition of emotional states and thereby help them feel loved and secure..

now in the church or around people they can recognize the patterns and emotion states naturally..

However like Anna she stayed in the temple praying and fasting….

1 Corinthians 11:5, KJV: “But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.”

  20. I attended Aglow when. I was a new believer, i did hear ideas which i would say were decieving doctrines at the very least heresy. I believe many well meaning tho decieved are so easy to be led astray by warm fuzzy teaching, instead of adhereing to sound scripture in the Word of God.
