Alistair Begg and tough decisions

American Family Radio announced it is dropping Alistair Begg’s program, Truth for Life, because of the pastor’s advice in a podcast last September to a grandmother to go ahead and attend her grandson’s wedding ceremony to a transgender person, and that Begg would not retract that advice.

Elizabeth Prata at The End Time reports: “Though AFR pressed the issue, reconciliation was not possible. There is no misunderstanding and it is perfectly clear, ‘that Begg was standing by his comments from the September podcast.’”

Please see Prata’s full report here.

Some will probably say that this beloved pastor is being cancelled, or that by posting about this is anathematizing him. I do not thing that is or should be the case. A pastor’s teachings, his advice, his every word must be examined by Scripture, and not just the crowd.

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. Ephesians 5:11
I am dissapointed. I loved listening to Alistair Begg. His biblical stance and solid preaching always pointed to Christ. And he’s been a humble, kind servant. I do not agree with the advice he gave to the grandmother. Is he ‘soft” on homosexuality? No.  However, there have been other red flags about his green-lighting female pastors (see Michelle Lesley’s post here), and so sadly, he is not on my recommended list. But I don’t think it is fair or good to anathematize him. I pray for him, and I hope you will join me.
